Word For The Day, Monday, 3/31/14

;

In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of "Word for the Day".

rapacious; adj.

1. given to seizing for plunder or the satisfaction of greed. 2. inordinately greedy; predatory; extortionate: a rapacious disposition. 3. (of animals) subsisting by the capture of living prey; predacious. Synonyms ravenous, voracious, grasping; preying. "Fortunately for those who pay their court through such foibles, a fond mother, though, in pursuit of praise for her children, the most rapacious of human beings, is likewise the most credulous; her demands are exorbitant; but she will swallow any thing." Jane Austen.

Etymology: 1645–55; < Latin rapāci- (stem of rapāx greedy, akin to rapere to seize; see rape1 ) + -ous

Rules: Everyone must leave a post using the Word for the Day in a sentence.
The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day.

The Review threads are linked for your edification. ;-)
Practice makes perfect.....post on....

that doesn’t sound bad. we have 5 attendees not xsgirls and i, so it’s tiny.

That makes sense-I’ve never hatched anything in an incubator, but I’m sure it is rewarding.

they did more wedding cake tasting this past weekend. can’t beat free cake for breakfast! they have pretty much decided on the bakery they want to use. There will be diff flavors depending on the layer, which was a new thing on me. No need for a grooms cake as more than one flavor will be offered in the wedding cake itself.

Aaaagh-that is a disgusting thought! I was just about to make tuna and raw veggies for lunch, but now I’m not that hungry-I’ll just eat a grapefruit while I do the invoices...

It is new to me, too, but it sounds very practical-no need to buy more than one cake. When we ordered the cakes for cub’s wedding, I was appalled that the groom’s cake was close to THE cake in price-ridiculous...

I never had my own cake. What kind of nonsense is this?
We did store the top layer in the freezer to have for our first anniversary.

So what you’re saying is everyone’s fave bubble butt is not allowed to judge the character of a person’s skin? She made no comment on the content of his character...

I’ve been to weddings where there was no groom’s cake, but not that many-most of the time, it was a chocolate cake of some sort, either a sheet cake or with 2 layers-MrT5’s was chocolate with dark chocolate icing-German chocolate is popular, too...

ohfortheluva - you’re pinging me to stuff that requires me read more than three paragraphs - not a single one of the paragraphs describing what a not guilty teacher did????

I hardly ever watch personality-hosted series type shows-I think Dirty Jobs was the last one I kept up with-I’d have to stop watching any show where the host uttered a positive word about the communist-in-chief...

i think that because a wedding cake is traditionally white or vanilla, the idea of the groom’s cake was to have some chocolate of some sort. Pretty sure xshub didn’t have one, bc we had a delicious choc chip cake. xsteen and xsfiance are looking at one or two layers of black/white mousse cake [DELISH, we have gotten their bday cakes in this flavor and it is to die for, very light and not overly sweet], a layer of bavarian cream and fruit with vanilla cake, and also a tiramisu cake layer.

If you chose just one, you could not have picked better
