Word For The Day, Monday, 3/31/14
In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of "Word for the Day".
rapacious; adj.
1. given to seizing for plunder or the satisfaction of greed. 2. inordinately greedy; predatory; extortionate: a rapacious disposition. 3. (of animals) subsisting by the capture of living prey; predacious. Synonyms ravenous, voracious, grasping; preying. "Fortunately for those who pay their court through such foibles, a fond mother, though, in pursuit of praise for her children, the most rapacious of human beings, is likewise the most credulous; her demands are exorbitant; but she will swallow any thing." Jane Austen.
Etymology: 164555; < Latin rapāci- (stem of rapāx greedy, akin to rapere to seize; see rape1 ) + -ous
Rules: Everyone must leave a post using the Word for the Day in a sentence.
The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day.

Good Morning Class. Welcome to School!
Here is my example with WFTD.
Rapacious Russian killers are afoot in Kiev.
No pushing at the door please!
not Warren, i meant Y’town.
yes Scrooge McDuck is a good example of the WFTD. A+++
An eyewitness has said a man opened fire on a police officer and shot him multiple times. The officer returned fire taking the shooter down. Ambulances and police came and took them around the corner to the ER door. The officer died shortly after arrival, shooter lived to go into surgery, died there. Bomb squad came as two medical office buildings were closed and searched. One is where I had my MRI on my back, the other is a larger medical complex. Both across the street from the main entrance to the hospital. Looks like no more news till 2pm at a press conference.
you seem to have more violence going on up there in your town than we have down here! that is scary stuff!
End Times are here! LOL
This is EXACTLY why I chose to go to PA for my surgery. Hospital is exactly the same distance in the opposite direction. I hate the big city vibes at Wilson. Will not go there willingly. Take enough patients there, but don’t want to go myself.
did you read the Left Behind series too??? wow that really sounds like it’s lifted right out of there.
I did read it, then couldn’t finish the last couple in the series. Got bored with it.
sounds like a good enough reason to go to PA.
That’s not “opining.” That’s just telling it like it is.
It was sunny and 75 yesterday, and the same is predicted for today-but the nights are still in the 40’s. I can’t visualize snow, however...
Obamacare is a total mess,
The train is off the track-
His minions need money to get
Their asses out of a crack
Bring on the rapacious IRS,
The best of executive perqs-
But they should channel Nixon
To find out how well it works
Eventually, they’ll be busted-
It is simply a matter of time
A sense of self-preservation
Will make someone drop the dime...
Congrats on the new member of the flock-is it exhibiting proper chicken behavior?
Given that it is all within an hour of eachother, maybe an hour and a half, who knows.
I almost forgot the games at the shower. There were a couple that they must have bought. One being a list of famous lovers that you had to match. The second was a purse audit. So many points for each item you had in your purse. Then they had a board set up as a matching game. Numbered 1-20, you had to match words like honeymoon, vows or groom. It was just a folded paper attached and they would flip it up and show us what was underneath and pull them off after they were matched. We played that as a table. Then the prize was hokey...like a Mr. Goodbar for the groom, hershey kisses for hugs and kisses. We all groaned appropriately. I think it was red hots for honeymoon. Next there were little bags of spices stapled shut and displayed as a plant in a clay pot, ten of them. We had to name them without opening the bags. Then there was a price is right game, each table had an item and we had to name the price. There were tons of prizes, it seemed like everyone ended up with something. It was pleasant.
I like grilled lamb or cabrito-not available here except in Spring. And I love roast pig, too. As kids, we never were allowed to make pets of animals designated as “food”-they were just “livestock” on the ranch. Sheep, and the goats sheared for hair/wool were too valuable for many to be slaughtered-only a few culls were for food.
I couldn’t have a pet slaughtered and eat it, either, but not everyone is so picky.
It was hopping a bit and making peep noises. It’s still inside the incubator with the other egg. It has to stay in there 24 hours or so until it dries.
He can still enjoy it with the sound down. ;-)
perfect! A+++
