Women who drink the most diet sodas may also be more likely to develop heart disease and even to die, according to a new study published Saturday.
Researchers found women who drank two or more diet drinks a day were 30 percent more likely to have a heart attack or other cardiovascular "event," and 50 percent more likely to die, than women who rarely touch such drinks.
The findings, being presented at a meeting of the American College of Cardiology, don't suggest that the drinks themselves are killers. But women who toss back too many diet sodas may be trying to make up for unhealthy habits, experts say.
"Our study suggests an association between higher diet drink consumption and mortality," said Dr. Ankur Vyas, a cardiovascular disease expert at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinic, who led the study....

Please cut my pizza into 4 peices, I can’t eat 8 pieces...... and add a large diet coke........
They’re tense because they’re trying to lose weight. Relax and love yourself, honey.
Don’t drink ‘em, get fat and die another way. Can’t win either way unless you just drink water and even then you don’t for sure what’s in that...
Because fat people drink diet soda, skinny people drink regular.
Next.
People who drink diet sodas have already self-identified as being concerned about weight, and therefore are far more likely to be overweight with associated health problems. Flawed study, flawed conclusion. Now, if they were to have controlled for weight there might be some merit. But, they didn’t.
butterfield’s paradox.
What’s wrong with sugar?
Well, dying is nature’s way of telling us to slow down - or - I’m going to take it real easy until the day I die then taper off.
I drink diet because I’m accustomed to the taste, regular seems far too sweet now. I started because I was about twenty pounds overweight close to a decade ago. I’m right at 200 now, slightly over six feet tall, not much fat on me. Probably would be better off to drop sodas altogether, but caffeine is such a useful substance, not a morning person at all, lol.
More likely to die?
A few years ago I was on the job with a co-worker who had to be rushed to the ER with some major heart palpitations. Once it was normalized he was informed to stop drinking so much diet coke. He used to chug down mucho Big Gulps full before the incident. Too much of anything consumed is not a good thing.
And so is alchohol. God gave us chemistry!
So switch to high-fructose-corn-syrup-sweetened drinks and die even faster.
Not so. While the wife shops at Costco I normally set in the snack bar having a goodie. While there I watch to see what drinks skinny people select at the self serve drink station and what overweigt people select. I almost never see an overweight individual select a diet drink. Skinny and normal weight people select diet drinks about 60% of the time.
“The women who drank the most drinks were also more likely to smoke, to be overweight, to have diabetes and to have high blood pressure, Vyas noted.”
‘nuff said.
Trouble is, that's not what's in sweetened soft drinks, it's high-fructose corn syrup. But that's sugar isn't it? But it's got a bad name.
Isn't the likelihood 100% for everybody?
