When the manager of a Michigan gas station failed to show up for work on time, her third-shift employee did what any of us would do; he left an angry note on the door, locked up and went home.
Okay, most of us would never do it. But how awesome was it that he did?
The BP manager, who declined to be named, said she was running 30 minutes late because she slept through her alarm.
The tardy manager also said she was surprised that Joe left the note on the door instead of calling her before leaving the store.

First off, he did not decide ‘whether or not the business would open that day.’ He had been there all night. Then after he had waited more than an hour, he finally gave up, locked up and went home.
Do you really think this was the very first time this happened?
And having this happened to me back in the 60’s when I was the assistant manager for a Radio Shack, I’d be willing to bet this was not the first time this had happened. I had a manager who would never show up on time, sometimes not showing up at all. Couldn’t complain. His dad was a big wheel at corporate in Atlanta.
Finally I would just close the store and go to my classes.
So, how long is he suppose to wait? Wanna bet if the manager was ‘sleeping’ through her alarm, she was also sleeping though phone calls.
You are trying to defend a disgruntled employee who should have been fired for what he did. If the manager was a bad manager, then he should be fired too.
It is never acceptable for a line employee to unilaterally decide to close a business and, on top of that, to post a public notice on the door defaming the establishment!
Again, how long does he wait?
Does he wait or does he go home so he can drop his wife off at work, or his child at daycare?
Again, how many times do you put up with this, and what would you do if corporate ignores you?
What if the manager is the owner’s child?
What do you do?
You haven’t answered the question.
An hour? Two? However long he decided to stay, it was unacceptable for the employee to post a snotty message on the door for the public to see.
I already told you what I would do: I would call the manager’s manager, or the owner, after leaving multiple voicemails for the manager himself. I would try to rearrange my schedule to work the next shift. If I couldn’t rearrange my schedule, and there was a dire emergency, then I would reluctantly close the doors but under no circumstances would I have posted a notice like that on the door! The notice alone should be a firing offense.
And how do you know all this had not already been tried?
How do you know this wasn’t the 10th or 20th time this had happened and nothing had been done, and he was finally just fed up. After all he did tell her this might get him fired.
Very much doubt this was the 1st time, or even the 5th time.
How many times would you put up with this?
It doesn’t matter if it was the tenth time: THE EMPLOYEE SHOULD NOT HAVE POSTED THAT NOTICE ON THE DOOR, PERIOD. I don’t know why you find that acceptable!
I’m not sure how to fire someone badly.
I’d have to say, though, that this supervisor badly needs to be fired!
Man fired after note to boss goes viral
Article about it at the following link.
What difference does it make?
He did work an extra hour. How many extra hours do you think he should have stayed with no word from the manager?
Personally, I would have only given him 15 minutes then locked up and left, if there was no phone call.
It defames the business. If you don’t see why that’s a problem, please consult your attorney.
Oh, and please note the following:
“He posted the note, locked up and went home. We spoke with his manager on Thursday who admits she was late that day but argues that he never called her or anyone else at the gas station. He just walked off the job. A move he thought might end up with him losing his job.”
If this was your employee, would you keep him? He didn’t call the manager OR anyone else, just shut the door and walked away. Screw this dipstick—he deserved to be fired for posting the note, not to mention walking off the job. The manager needs attention too, but anyone with sympathy for this idiot needs to rethink his position.
Imho, the manager is more to blame than the employee, because among her responsibilities is that of role model and leader. Without further facts, I can only conclude that she has failed in both.
This is in reference to how Hillary Clinton(ugly witch} would respond to this situation. Don't be over dramatic about lifes situations.
