New Taco Bell ad: Even Ronald McDonald likes our breakfast

Taco Bell takes direct aim at McDonald’s Corp. in a new advertisement.

California-based Taco Bell first fired a shot at the burger chain in October when David Novak, CEO of Taco Bell’s parent company Yum! Brands (NYSE: YUM), announced that Taco Bell would roll out a breakfast menu nationwide in 2014, Business First reported.

The menu, which includes a waffle taco and A.M. Crunchwrap, debuted in Taco Bell locations across the United States today.

McDonald’s (NYSE: MCD) has long dominated fast-food breakfast with its Egg McMuffins and hash browns.

To drive home the point that its foray into breakfast is a direct effort to compete with the burger chain, Taco Bell has rolled out a new television ad featuring men named Ronald McDonald talking about how much they like Taco Bell’s various breakfast offerings.

Of course, Ronald McDonald is also the name of McDonald’s clown mascot, who has been around since the 1960s.

Near the end of the ad, words at the bottom of the screen indicate that none of the Ronald McDonalds are affiliated with McDonald’s.

But the message is clear.

I noticed the commercial on Hulu.com, which broadcasts television shows online. It's now up on Taco Bell's YouTube channel as well.

I wonder if and when McDonald’s will shoot back?

Fast-food chains such as Burger King Worldwide (NYSE: BKW) and The Wendy’s Co. (NASDAQ: WEN) have tried to take on McDonald’s but failed.

But Taco Bell seems to be on a roll with product innovation.

Just look at Doritos Locos Tacos.

Taco Bell should do some research to discover flavor and texture.

If their breakfast has the same effect as the rest of their food I’ll pass, I can’t afford to spend that much time in the can!

But none can compare to the primier of the fast food breakfast: Jack in the Box!!!

Breakfast Jack
Scrambled Egg Pocket
Supreme Croissant
Tacos... 20 of them...

Yeah, when I feel the urge to eat Taco Bell I usually just flush a $5 bill down the toilet. It saves me a lot of time and discomfort.

That's why they lick the shells...

Oh, this is just TOO good!

Some folks in Oak Brook, Ill. are probably pooping bricks right now.

Taco Bell “meat” is just 35% beef, with the rest containing oats, soy lecithin, and other poly-syllabic matter.

Wonder what their “breakfast” is really made of!

Hey, Taco Bell's new Loaded Grillers are really giving 7-11 a run for their money!

Personally I love all this infighting amongst the fast food chains.

It reminds me of the kind of cute competitions from the old days of Madison Avenue’s glory days, I would say the 60s.

It’s just good fun.

My idea of multicultural fusion cuisine is a JitB Ultimate Cheeseburger, Nacho Supreme taco, and an order of egg rolls with sweet and sour sauce.

Yum.

Taco Bell,

Roll out some type of loaded nachos as a "breakfast" meal, and you'll destroy the competition.

I still like that Burger King has "Burgers for Breakfast".

A couple regular cheeseburgers and some black coffee has saved me on many occasions.

And having a hotter hot sauce would be a good thing, too. Their “fire” sauce is about a medium at best. They need one that actually registers on the Scoville scale. That’ll add flavor.

All they have to do is offer simply breakfast tacos on a tortilla. Not on a waffle.

As a teen age Texan, I ate my first Taco Bell in Laguna, Ca. in 1969, I didn’t know what to make of it or Taco Bell, the whole concept of fake food was new to me at the time.
