For me, The Godfather and Chinatown are Numbers 1 and 2. The rest are up for discussion.
Well written and articulate argument.
Kelly,s Hero’s. The last Detail.
“Kelly,s Heros. The last Detail.”
I was in the Navy when Last Detail came out so I enjoyed the heck out of it. Don’t know if it has been mentioned, but Cinderella Liberty with James Cann was pretty good too.
Darryl Ponicsan wrote Cinderella Liberty and the Last Detail. I read the latter and enjoyed it, very much the same as the movie except for the ending.

Thank you!
Not much to argue with here in terms of impact, unless you want to include Dirty Harry.
Anyone ever see a movie called “The Wicker Man”? It was good.
Also, not so great but a memorable watch for a young kid in the 70s was, “Capricorn One.”
Nice review!
Thanks!

Yea Rawhide!!!
Kelly,s Heros. The last Detail.
Those good too!
What, no James Bond? Also agree Patton should be on the list. Jaws and The Godfather were iconoclastic.
Rowdy Yates....
The notion that those Mel Brooks films are better than The Godfather is pretty comical indeed. :) Silent Movie is especially wretched. Why someone with Brooks’ strictly verbal talent would choose to film silent comedy...
I disagree.
Silent Movie was quite funny. More hilarious than either of his 1974 comedies.
I have never seen the appeal of the Godfather. Another poster made some good comments on it earlier in the thread.
The scene when Marlon Brando died was award and filmed amateurously.
I will say that I agree that the Brooks comedies aren’t necessarily “better” than the Godfather.
But unpretentious comedy, to me, is more enjoyable than overwrought melodrama such as every Coppola film.
Patton
The Sting
American Graffiti
Network
Breaking Away
To name five ...
Just watched the last 1/2 of American Graffiti, tonight. Good memories ;)
Rowdy Yates....
Yep, Then there was Wagon Train!!!
