I disagree.

Silent Movie was quite funny. More hilarious than either of his 1974 comedies.

I have never seen the appeal of the Godfather. Another poster made some good comments on it earlier in the thread.

The scene when Marlon Brando died was award and filmed amateurously.

I will say that I agree that the Brooks comedies aren’t necessarily “better” than the Godfather.

But unpretentious comedy, to me, is more enjoyable than overwrought melodrama such as every Coppola film.

I liked the off handed way the Brando death scene was filmed. It was almost thrown away instead of putting in some sort of spotlight - the opposite of melodrama. There isn’t much that’s overwrought in the first two Godfather films...they are pretty restrained and laconic (the less said about the third film the better). The Conversation isn’t overwrought at all for instance.

Brooks doesn’t have any cinematic sense at all. The Producers is completely inept from a pure filmmaking point of view. Jerry Lewis at least was an accomplished technician.
