The notion that those Mel Brooks films are better than The Godfather is pretty comical indeed. :) Silent Movie is especially wretched. Why someone with Brooks’ strictly verbal talent would choose to film silent comedy...
I disagree.
Silent Movie was quite funny. More hilarious than either of his 1974 comedies.
I have never seen the appeal of the Godfather. Another poster made some good comments on it earlier in the thread.
The scene when Marlon Brando died was award and filmed amateurously.
I will say that I agree that the Brooks comedies aren’t necessarily “better” than the Godfather.
But unpretentious comedy, to me, is more enjoyable than overwrought melodrama such as every Coppola film.
