Dog eaten in its kennel by a python: Owner finds snake with leash still dangling from its mouth

An Australian woman discovered her pet dog had been eaten by a snake in the most gruesome possible way after finding a bloated python lying curled in its kennel with the end of the dog's chain still dangling from its mouth.
Amazingly, the wildlife-lover had only chained her Chihuahua-Maltese cross overnight to stop it disturbing native animals near her Caniaba home in northern NSW, but it meant there was no escaping the 2.5-metre python that slithered into the kennel.
When the woman went outside to let the dog off its chain the following morning, she discovered the bloated snake curled up inside the kennel. The end of the chain was protruding from its mouth.
Things got worse for the shocked pet owner when she realised the chain that had been keeping her dog in its kennel was now ensuring the giant snake couldnt get away either.

Hmmm, I’ve got a neighbor with a little barker, too bad there aren’t snakes that big around here as I’d get some sleep.
To: george76
If that had been my dog, the headline would have included, “headless” in the title.

Poor pup! It should have been in the woman's bed with her not chained out side.
Well now she has the snake trapped and she can dispose of it so it can't do this again......... but she won't.

Salamander, I agree in re: "Stupid woman." Knowing you have several snakes, what is the largest dinner one of yours has eaten without issue? I saw an 18 footer eat a large white duck one time - but that snake was part of a large serpent show, not a pet.
This is off topic, but I have to ask: Is this your helmet for riding in states that require them? Saw it on a helmet sight and remembered seeing on your profile a long time ago that you might just listen to Alice every now and again...

chained her Chihuahua-Maltese cross overnight to stop it disturbing native animalsI suppose those were her only two options. I mean, it's not like she could let the dog sleep inside the house or anything.

if tether a small dog or cat outside, odds are you will feed a chicken hawk or eagle.
I have a friend who lives on Lake St. Clair here in S.E. Michigan and that's exactly what happened to her neighbor's miniature dachsund.......
And to make things worse, an eagle was known to be in the area and was even observed by my friend sitting on one of the pylons on her boat dock.........

Yep, unfortunately.
You are supposed to keep your dog(s) close to you, like the trusty friend that they are, to alert/protect you from things like that python and vice versa.
Why else would you have a dog?

There is a garden center in my area that kept exotic birds in cages among the plants. Black snakes like to eat birds. Can you see where this is going?

I don't understand people leaving little teacup type dogs outside at all; they re inside-the-house dogs. My neighbor has two Maltese/Chihuahua mixes and they are little yappers. I only see them when they go out to do their business or if he walks them. No one should leave incessant little yappers outside all the time.
We don't even let out Corgi go out in the yard by himself. My wife or I are always outside with him when he goes out. I wonder how distraught the lady is over a dog that did not apparently mean much to her (judging by the way she treated him).
