Child pornography conviction
On September 20, 2007,Bernie Ward was indicted by a grand jury on two federal counts of Attempting to Distribute and one count of Receiving child pornography via the internet from December 2004 to January 2005.
The police investigation of Ward originated with a complaint from a Stanislaus County homemaker who was posing online as a dominatrix under the screen name "Sexfairy2005" and who had engaged in online chats with Ward According to the police report, Ward sent pornographic images of children to the chat partner, which caused her to contact police. The police began collecting evidence with her help and continued chat sessions with Ward..
With good behavior, Ward's sentence of 87 months will be reduced by 15 percent, making him eligible for Supervised Release on December 21, 2014; there is no parole in the Federal system. When Ward is released, California's Megan's Law will require him to register as a sex offender with local law enforcement for life.
Ward is now serving his sentence at the Lompoc Low Security Federal Correctional Facility (FCI) as inmate # 90569-111.
In the chat logs (found here: http://abclocal.go.com/three/kgo/bernie_ward_indictment.pdf ), Ward also described sexual activity with his own children.
The format switch was in late 2011. I don’t think it had any connection to the Ward incident.
KGO was what I would call mainstream democrat prior to that. They had a few lefty bomb throwers but most of the hosts were moderate left. They also had a very good conservative - Bill Wattenburg - on the weekend.
Many of the fired hosts went to other local stations and the audience followed them there.
Oh, I couldn’t stand Ray T.

Bwahahahaha!!! Looks like KGO doesn't want people to read about their proud history. Good to know they're gone. Hope they haven't just moved to a different market.
“Theres no way this cretin will come back to the Bay Area.”
Hell, he’d be elected mayor in a landslide.
As fast as a flash I was at the FCC’s website and I filed a complaint against KGO for Ray's failure to hit the “dump button” and proect my ears from such a dirty word.
Later, KGO was fined $10,000 for that F-up!
LOL!
i thought he threw himself off the Golden Gate Bridge... oh wait... that was the other guy... blech...
“Why don’t you have a seat right over there.”
Gene Burns was a Libertarian and unless he too a radical turn leftward in his fiscal policies after he left Boston he was pretty conservative.
He confessed to distributing child pornography and he engaged in internet chat sessions in which he described sexual acts performed upon his own children. Later, his defense would allege that this was "all pretend" in order to "do research for a book" and that the sexual acts never occurred. But what kind of sick man would describe sexual acts performed upon his own children in order to do research for a book?
BTW, the investigation never turned up even a shred of evidence that Bernie Ward was working on any kind of a book. So the "I was just doing research" gambit did not work out too well for him. And at any rate, Ward did concede that he did distribute the child pornography.
Unfortunately, Burns took a leftward turn toward the end of his run and turned into a big Obama supporter.
I did like him when he started and he did tout himself as a libertarian. I think part of his shtick was to take a controversial stand and then engage in verbal combat with the callers. So it wasn’t always clear where he really stood on issues.
Since he left Boston in 1993, he definitely took a leftward turn. He was a closeted homosexual (not much of a secret when he was in Boston) but was more open about it when he got to the West Coast. Around 2008, he announced that he was putting his libertarianism aside and joining the Democrat Party. It was not too long after that that he began suffering the strokes that would eventually take his life last May.
During the 1985-1993 period, he was the premier radio talk show host in Boston. After that, he seemed to have gone down a bad path. So I will choose to remember him as he was.
That period was also when I listened to his show and he was my favorite. He went on a speaking tour to celebrate his 30th year in talk radio and when I saw him in person I was surprised that someone with such a powerful voice could look so frail and weak. He spoke about the Constitution and how it was being eroded by modern politicians and the speech was brilliant. So I too shall fondly remember this Gene Burns
Last I heard of him he was transferred to New York where he was being readied for national syndication. Then something happened and he dropped out of sight. I knew he had reappeared in San Francisco but never got to hear him speak again. From what I've been reading this sounds like a good thing.
Dr. Bill, the smartest person you could talk to for free, was my favorite. Every weekend night. He sure put the lie to the environmental stuff coming out of Sacramento. His info on gasoline additives and also forest maintenance and fires made the state and feds look like the fools they were.
Savage started there in 1994, and he had a fabulous show at the beginning.
