Sarah Slocum loves her Google Glass. She wears the gadget on her face for more than 12 hours a day and enjoys showing others how to use it. With the wink of an eye, she can take a picture or use her voice to command it to record video. The device is, she says, the future.
So it was with some shock that she discovered there are those who disagree. Rather forcibly, in fact. On a recent outing to a bar in San Francisco, the 34-year-old technology writer says she was attacked by people who told her F--- Google!, accused her of killing this city and ripped the hi-tech gear from her head.
The incident has become a touchstone for a wider debate in San Francisco, where a section of the otherwise tolerant, liberal and peace-loving population appears to have had enough of the inexorable march of technology. Bars and coffee shops have begun putting up signs banning Google Glass devices. Special buses that take employees to work in nearby Silicon Valley have been picketed. Hundreds of demonstrators recently gathered outside Twitters headquarters to protest about tax breaks for the company. And, most of all, there is anger over spiraling rents and evictions as young tech workers colonize previously low-income areas.

The article says, San Francisco, where a section of the otherwise tolerant, liberal and peace loving population
Then the article goes on to demonstrate that they are not liberal (in the real sense of the word) or peace loving. They are, instead, liberal in the modern political sense of not tolerating anybody different or more diverse than themselves. How can people maintain the cognitive dissonance of what they call San Franciscans who act this way and the way those same people actually act? Id simply describe them as entitled, angry people upset that there are those living around them making much more money and having way cooler gadgets. These same San Franciscans would be throwing their wooden shoes into the new mechanical looms that were taking their home weaving jobs. (The shoes were called sabot, hence the word sabotage.) What do you call throwing a brick through buss windows?
Dale, we’ve talked about this. Remember what the doctor said about your blood pressure? Deep breaths, dale, deep breaths.

What is going to be really interesting is when "Google Glasses" morph into "Google Implants" where a chip is installed somewhere on your body and it interfaces with your eyes and ears and allows you to record everything you see and hear and no one will know if someone is implanted.
The world will be very different the day that tech becomes mainstream...!
Angry liberals, who’d a thunk it!
I share the lefts feelings for Google though perhaps for different reasons. Can’t stand the statist bastards.
This is classic liberal class-envy in action. They just hate the fact that these people work for a successful growing company that is causing their city to get more affluent. Real estate prices are rising (which cause increase in rents) and their town is getting saturated with upscale eateries and shops that the aging hippies can't afford because either their welfare checks aren't enough or their daddy's trust funds are running dry.
The liberals just HATE these Google buses!
Oh, my goodness! I had no idea the busses were painted up with the corporate logos. That’s incredibly stupid. Give the situation, I’d have no identification on the busses whatsoever. They’d be non-descript. I might go so far as painting them prison grey and stenciling “Prisoner Transport’ on them.
Why would that be so terribly hard to understand?
Wasn't the city more interesting and lively in the past?
Even in places where I've lived gentrification isn't any unalloyed blessing by any means.
Are all the buses as old as the one in that picture? That one looks like 60s vintage to me.
This is because liberals are nasty, intolerant people who are jealous of anybody who appears to be doing better than them. Their real issue with the Google buses is that there is a group of people who are being treated well by their capitalist employer. And they can't have that!
We’re already in the post privacy society, everything else is just seasoning.
The bus in that picture looks like it dates back to the 1940s, just looking at the exterior.
Jim Goad didn’t call them “Bay Aryans” for nothing.
That one in particular looks late-1970s. The Leyland Olympian dates from about 79.

Obviously real estate prices should be permanently fixed. Because... Uh... Just because.
and, yet, they keep voting for polices/taxes/regulations that help accelerate the rise in their rents...go figure
They forgot to mention SF kicked the google barge out. It was moved to Stockton last week.
