VIDEO: Most SHOCKING Commercial Ever
Self | February 28, 2014 | PJ-Comix

Check out this VIDEO of a commercial featuring James Mason. It is for a product that never in your wildest imagination could you picture James Mason plugging...only he did. I wonder how he managed to not show complete disgust or burst out laughing when he did the commercial. It is for a product that you would never associate with the polished British actor. Just amazing it was ever made.

Did you ever try Smokey Mountain wines? They were around for a couple of years back in the 70’s.

Notice that James Mason never actually sampled the stuff.

I think that Orson Welles may have downed a glass or twelve before doing this one.

Interesting.

I recently watched “Lolita” which was released in ‘62 and was amazed that James Mason played the part of Humbert Humbert.

Was also flummoxed by the fact that Peter Sellers had and still has little to no mention for his portrayal of Clare Quilty, even though his character was a major part of the storyline and gav Sellers a chance to showcase his ability to play many different personalities

I read that it was originally marketed in an unusual way. Marketers would drive thru urban neighborhoods late at night and toss empty bottles in great quantities out the windows. The sight of all those empty bottles gave the residents the idea it was popular stuff that they had to try for themselves.

“Thunderbird wine was skid row caliber”

It’s a few steps up from MD 2020 or Wild Irish Rose.

A lot of rather (surprisingly) big-name movie folks did commercials in the 1950s/60s. Ditto for magazine ads in the 30s/40s/50s. There was not considered any shame or unseemliness about doing so. If anything, there was a certain pride, taking on and representing a product. It wasn’t until the later crop of late-60s/70s/80s modern-era baby-boomer stars that seemed to have an inflated attitude of themselves, and that they were apparently too good for such things, and would be ‘lowering’ themselves to be involved in such ‘commercial’ work!

JK Simmons is a guy who gets big roles but has no problem doing those insurance ads as the instructor.

Ah yes, Boone’s Farm. Back in the day (age 17), I was good for about 3 bottles of Strawberry Hill. Then, not so good.
