LOS ANGELES Los Angeles Lakers guard Kobe Bryant told Yahoo Sports that the Brooklyn Nets' signing of openly gay center Jason Collins will have a "domino effect" that will impact much more than the gay and sports communities.
Collins became the first openly gay athlete to play in one of America's four major sports when he debuted for the Nets against the Lakers on Sunday night. The Nets signed Collins, who announced he was gay on April 29, to a 10-day contract on Sunday. Bryant has been a strong supporter of Collins since his announcement.
"His impact [Sunday night] is greater than what people think," Bryant told Yahoo Sports before the game. "You look at it from the context of having the first openly gay player. But they missed the domino effect that it has way beyond sports."
Bryant first responded to Collins' announcement that he was gay by saying on his Twitter account

Let me retweet that to Collins’ FEMALE fiancee of 5 years.
Shut up and play ball ! Keep your mouth shut regarding who you sleep with. We don’t want to know...
Bryant is a thug.
Concur. The use of “brave” is quite incorrectly applied. To be “brave” in the modern world is to espouse real marriage, abstinence, restraint, or anything else that Christ taught. Were anyone truly brave, they would point out the sin of this Collins person.
Last week Michael Sam and this week Jason Collins. Anything else happen in the wide world of sports?
Apparently not.
...THIRD,maybe...
I think the most important effect it will have will be on young Americans. Saddled with skyrocketing student loan debt (due to the government subsidization of education, which allows colleges to continue to jack up prices), and no hope for meaningful employment (because of failed Keynesian economic programs, over-regulation, and Obamacare), it provides a perfect emotionally-charged escape away from grim realities.
Youngsters can now sit around all day tweeting and Facebooking stuff about the latest gay basketball or football player, and not have to think about their futures. What a life!...
This is all about money for Kobe. Nothing more. He is marketing himself for his post-NBA career. Especially given his history of being fined for a “homosexual epithet” during a game. Don’t want to look “intolerant” in the eyes of the Bob Costas’s of the world.
I guess that should be expected given many were themselves once towel boys who could only dream of 'making the team'.
Courage? To come out when everyone around applauds you as if you are a three year old using the potty for the first time?
Gee, would it be politically incorrect to demand an HIV test before playing against him? After all, injuries do happen and blood could get into a scrape.
Soon it will be a hate crime to be heterosexual.
What a bunch of crap and BS.
Isn't having a homosexual in the men's shower equivalent to having a normal guy in the women's shower?
“I’m beginning to believe that sports journalists are the worst sort of butt-sucking leftists”
Especially ABC-owned ESPN. This garbage is one of their top stories on all their stations. They consider it earth shattering news. No one has mentioned that Collins had a 6-6 blonde headed girlfriend for 8 years and was on the verge of getting married when he “came out”. She was asked about it and said he had “no idea he was like that”. In otherwords he’s either a lying SOB or a bi-sexual POS that has anal sex with men then jumps in the sack with women. These homos are the lowest of the low. They are the reason for the AIDs epidemic in America.
Why is this worthy of posting? There are 1000 more important things in my life than this sort of trivial stuff.
I am actually ashamed of myself for posting a reply.
