Remember that video of the plane crash in Hawaii after which Hawaii Health Director Loretta Fuddy "died"?

You need to take a closer look.

First, let's compare apples to apples.

Uncropped screen shots from KOHN and KITV:

The images are at different camera angles and different heights and different zoom. The KITV image (bottom) shows the floor of the Cathedral while the KOHN image does not. The vertical window mullion seen in the KOHN image is obscured by the Legislators' signature plaque which has a wooden frame that is approximately the same color as the background doors. The brown color underneath the memoriam with the lei is the door in the background while the white underneath the memoriam with the lei in the KOHN is the window of that door. I see no evidence of anything out of the ordinary.

I suspect geometry wasn’t butters strong point at school - either that or she’s doing image analysis in Word again!

Look at the bottom red flower in the arrangement beside the stand. In your top picture that red flower has light showing through the glass of the window all around the bottom of the flower, on both the left and right sides of the flower. Yet in your bottom picture you see the whole flower with no light anywhere around it. If the stand was in the way and blocked out the light then the stand would also be in the way of the flower so you wouldn’t see it either.

And look at the top photo where light from the window shows the stairstep pattern of the stand. In the bottom photo there is light on the front of the stand where that stairstep pattern is. If the light of the window is hidden behind the stand there, then how did that light get on the FRONT side of the stand?

Look at the plaque behind the casket. On the top image the right edge of the plaque is about even with where the lid of the casket goes downward. On the bottom image it’s much farther to the left. To get the relative position to change that much you’d have to have a much different angle for the shot; the top one would have to be a straight-on shot and the bottom one would have to have the camera positioned far to the left and be looking to the right at an angle. But the angle of the stand, the edge of the plaque, and the casket itself are all the same on both photos. To get the angle so different that the plaque covers up the entire leftmost window pane - so that the window that is seen in the bottom photo is the wide middle part of the window that’s behind the big flower arrangement in the top photo - the camera would have to be far enough to the left that it’s basically looking across the side of the stand. But the 2 images of the stand can be laid on top of each other and match perfectly; they are both taken from the same angle. The front of the casket is straight across on the bottom photo, and the top of the lid is parallel to the front of the casket - not distorted as it would be if the camera was looking across the casket. Both of these photos are straight-on shots of the casket, not one of them being an angled shot as would be required for the plaque and window to have their relative placements appear to be so different.

When you look at the video the silvery 2 with the circular blue background - KHON2’s logo - spins around and has streaks of light that emanate out from it from time to time. That’s what we see in the top image. The streaks of bluish light are the logo. But on the bottom photo there are blobs of bright light in the area of the stand that would fall in shadow, with no window light reaching it. Where are those blobs of light supposed to be from?

There’s a spiky plant or something that angles down right above where the pall is on the bottom photo. It reaches all the way over to the edge of the plaque behind it. On the top photo it reaches only to the middle of that rightmost column of printed names - again, showing that the bottom shot would have to be at a different angle in order to get that relative change in positioning, but neither the casket itself nor the stand nor the plaque shows distortion from a different angle.

Geometry was my favorite math class and I was the valedictorian of my class - like I just today found out my son is also.

Seeing 3 dimensions is not my strong suit, which is why I usually do experiments to see how something would look at a different angle. Knowing where the light sources are and where the vantage point is, there are some general principles about where the shadows should fall and what parts of an object should show more or less when the vantage point moves this or that direction.

Now I'm going to zoom in on the rectangle I drew on the image (notice the vertical mullion that disappears into the top of the legislators' signature plaque):

Now I will zoom in again on the rectangle I drew on this image:

And compare that last zoom to the full screen image of the her hands from KITV:

And that's only by zooming in on the image. Looks to me like for the close-up of the hands, the camera was a little higher and maybe slightly more to the right.

Of course a mullion will disappear if the plaque covers it up. But would you expect to be able to take another straight-on photo of the casket where the stand, plaque, and casket all showed the same basic perspective/angles/shadows as in this photo - BUT THE MULLION WAS NOT HIDDEN BY THE PLAQUE?

Also, this doesn’t seem to be the same location/positioning as the casket was in, in the other photos - just to my casual glance.

When was the KOHN video shot? When was the KITV video shot?

The viewing was two hours long. We know they moved the camera’s around and we know that between 9:00 a.m. and 11:oo a.m. the outside lighting would change. We also know they moved the plaques around. BTW, I disagree that the perspective are the same, you cannot overlay the KOHN image on the KITV image (I’ve tried). The gap between the two plaques is different between the two images.

The distances between things are different, but the items themselves can be laid on top of each other and the shapes/angles, etc match. For instance, the stand. From angles so different that in one photo you see the window that’s behind the plant to the left of the stand, and in the other you don’t.... the profile of the stand should be different. One should be mostly a front view, the other mostly a side view. And yet the profiles of the stand match each other in both photos.

The walls are mainly glass. Besides that there are electric lights overhead and camera crews may have lights as well. There are many light sources and glare sources.

I think the video is more accurate and useful than any perceived discrepancy obtained by comparing frame grabs.

About the only thing that’s semi-clear is the bouquet of flowers at the very forefront.

LMAO @ "They". Who is "They"? Anyway, It isn't a "photo" it is a video still. He paused it and grabbed a screenshot. Both videos of the funeral are clear as day, and can be found by searching for "Fuddy's funeral". I watched both of them, and there is nothing unusual in either of them. Of course, if you pause the video, with the right lighting, you can see whatever you want to see, as you do.
