BEAVERTON -- Each week, Washington County posts bad examples of 911 calls in its You called 911 for that? campaign. The campaign is designed to draw attention to the dangers of non-emergency calls that tie up 911 lines. This weeks call really lives up to the hype. OPERATOR: 911, Police Fire and Medical. CALLER: Yeah we got a problem here. My wife is struggling in her jacket and can't get it off. I want 911 here immediately. OPERATOR: Is she not breathing? CALLER: She's alright, she just can't get her [expletive] jacket off. Just in case you were wondering, the fire department responded, rescued the woman and saved the jacket.
The drawer that holds the scissors?
Zipper Busters?
Her ex-husband?
Obama. He is the Lord of all Things...
Which makes the fire department even dumber than the 911 caller.
No one. It was their own damn problem and up to them to personally solve as adults.
I hope they were at least cited and charged a fee for this frivolous use of emergency services!
Removal of a jacket is not actually a requirement.
For even the most minor problems in life that people encounter in their daily lives they are looking to the government to solve for them.
I can not in my wildest imaginings think that even in a drunken stooper would I dial 911 for a stuck zipper.
Yet people like this fellow call 911 to get his wife out of her jacket. Did it occur to him to take the jacket off over her head and worry about it tomorrow? How about calling some friends for advise? If all else fails cut the zipper down one side and have a seamstress sew in a new more reliable zipper if the jacket is worth repairing.
But no these days we look to government to solve even the most mundane ordinary everyday problem that our grandparents would be ashamed for us to have asked another to fix for us.
We Americans are no longer the proud self-reliant people that our grandparents were. We have become soft, pliable couch potatoes that must ask a government authority to fix a broken zipper.
The bothersome part is that the firemen have so much time on their hands between naps and meals and naps and meals ... that they responded to this moron’s call.
In my town if you call Fire, you get police.
The Police then shoot dogs, taser people, throw them in prison.
I thought this was abusive behavior. It may just be designed to limit nuisance calls of this nature.
Dude doesn’t even own a pair of needle-nosed pliers?
On second thought, if he did, he’d probably manage to electrocute himself or somebody else...
When/why did “helpless whiners” become an accurate description of many Americans?
Maybe not, but it makes the experience more meaningful.
Haha, my first thought was, where are the scissors?
The post to which I responded didn't seem to call for "meaning."
Can't be tied up on nuisance calls when there are dogs to shoot, doors to break down, and erstwhile citizens to terrorize !
