PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) Two math majors at Reed College lost control of a massive snowball that rolled into a dorm, knocking in part of a bedroom wall.
No one was injured.
The students began making the snowball last week during a rare snowstorm in Portland, Ore.
Nobody weighed the object, but college spokesman Kevin Myers says it was estimated to weigh 800 pounds or more.

Funny. The first thing I thought of was how this reminded me of Gary Larsen.

Somewhere, at some university, a professor (or even a TA) is crafting a midterm Physics 1A problem based on this scenario.

Math majors? Sounds more like the work of physics majors to me. Or maybe engineers.

“Or maybe engineers.”
That was my first thought.

The out of control, giant snowball kind of reminds me of our out of control federal deficit.

As a Reed College dropout, I can readily believe this.

It’s almost criminal for a story like that not to have a picture.

When I was a kid (maybe 9 or 10) my friends and I thought it would be a great idea to make a huge snowball and roll it into my father’s driveway. The thing was huge - took about 6 of us to move it.
Needless to say, dad didn’t think it was too funny when he got home. I also didn’t think too far ahead. All of my friends had gone home and I had to remove it by myself.

Boy, you’re right about that!
Another of those things that sounded like a good idea at the time...
