Dad can't serve detention for tardy kid, but is welcome to join her

PLAINFIELD, Ill., School officials in Illinois turned down a father's request that he be punished in place of his daughter, but said it's OK if he serves detention with her.

The girl -- a third-grader at Meadow View Elementary School in Plainfield -- was ordered to detention for tardiness but the dad, whose name was not reported, volunteered to serve on her behalf, saying it was not her fault she was late, WLS-TV, Chicago, reported Thursday.

"Dad brings his child to school every day. The principal said the child will still serve the detention. That's their normal procedure and the rules are the rules," Plainfield School District 202 spokesman Tom Hernandez said. "But that dad is welcome to sit with his child for that 30 minutes."

The student, age 8, was scheduled to serve her time Friday.

It was a serious question to the person I posted it to.

Son is a senior. He weighs about 205 lbs. Hubby could carry him.

Our five year old is a pain as well, but he doesn’t make anyone late. He is the most bullheaded child I know. Ugh. He is a work in progress. :)

I raised three of them.

Strong willed runs down both sides of the family.

My first year of high school my mom used to “punish” me if I got detention by making me walk home which was close to 5 miles.

That was my introduction to hitch hiking.

Tell him that you'll take him to the marine recruiter's office for his birthday in twelve years* — it worked for my brother.
(* it can't be an empty threat.)

Home school is not an option for us.

That is, indeed, unfortunate, and why a voucher law would benefit those in your situation.

Teacher's unions, (not so much the teachers in them) and the leftist Big Education (taxpayer funded) establishment, is the primary cause of degeneration in education in the United States.

It is a union dues money laundering scheme to fund leftist Democrat political campaigns, and has no interest in children's education, only indoctrination for control.

The teacher unions must be exposed, made legally accountable, and voucher programs implemented to force standards by competition to make this about kids rather than money for the left.

Good luck and God Bless you all.

The Principal is a total lunatic who is unemployable in any context.

As would be the teacher's union bosses and executives that hold so many perfectly proficient teachers captive for their forced dues.

Often, school boards are partially or severely compromised, as well.

Your brother should not be surprised, public schools are a Fascist enterprise, and a typical knee jerk response is to kill the messenger.

I wish your brother well.

Homeschool, private school, charter school, Catholic school...

All good, all work WITH parents, and all raise standards.
