PLAINFIELD, Ill., School officials in Illinois turned down a father's request that he be punished in place of his daughter, but said it's OK if he serves detention with her.
The girl -- a third-grader at Meadow View Elementary School in Plainfield -- was ordered to detention for tardiness but the dad, whose name was not reported, volunteered to serve on her behalf, saying it was not her fault she was late, WLS-TV, Chicago, reported Thursday.
"Dad brings his child to school every day. The principal said the child will still serve the detention. That's their normal procedure and the rules are the rules," Plainfield School District 202 spokesman Tom Hernandez said. "But that dad is welcome to sit with his child for that 30 minutes."
The student, age 8, was scheduled to serve her time Friday.
This article provides zero information.
Is Dad getting her there late every day?
Was it just one time.?
“Dad brings his child to school every day”
Yeah. But are they late everyday?
Or just one day were they late?
No info.
Dad should put her in a good private school.
What difference does it make whether they are late? Unless you believe the school system has final say over parental actions. Do you think the school can tell a parent when they must bring their child to school?
There are tardy rules in private schools as well. Hubby offered to do detention for our daughter because she had too many “unexcused” tardies. The unexcused part disappeared after his offer. But daughter was being marked as late while our perpetually slow son was being given a pass by his first period teacher. The reason they were/are late is always son’s fault. He finds a way to cause them to leave later than hubby would like every single day. If traffic is good, there isn’t a problem. But most of the time, traffic is an issue.
What difference does it make?
Which are subject to negotiation, and responsive to compensation.
The unexcused part disappeared after his offer.
See, I told ya so.
The point is, third graders have no power to force adults to perform their duties to them and should not be punished in any way for not having that power.
Many of us dads would.. just as soon as we get a refund from the current school we are forced to pay for. Considering what a pita I have been with them you’d think they would have cut a check already.. I think I heard a head explode when I threatened to run for school board. (and I am seriously thinking about it)
Above all, do not allow government school Communist indoctrination access to your children.
Then he goes at the time you are supposed to. Pick him up and carry him out to the car if you have to.
There's a reason God made parents bigger than their children.
He's ready the night before so all he has to do in the morning is eat, dress, and pick up his backpack. If he forgets something, too bad.
A five or six year old should not be able to manipulate an entire family.
“Above all, do not allow government school Communist indoctrination access to your children.”
Yep. Homeschool, private school, charter school, Catholic school...whatever it takes. Heck, I bet even the schools in Moscow would measure up.
hear, hear!!!
My brother is a high school teacher (who home schools his own kids) He teaches engineering technical classes. He had a scheduled field trip cancelled at the last minute because he did not fill out a form that nobody knew he needed to complete. The Principal is a total lunatic who is unemployable in any context.
They tried to build a case to fire my brother last year based on incompetence. I met some of his students last year. All I said was “I’m Mr. Cyclotic’s brother.” and the students all began to say with great enthusiasm what a great teacher he is and how they go out of their way to take his classes.
I agree, get your kids out of the public school asylum.
Dad needs to homeschool
So this story is about your family? Am I reading your comments correctly?
This ping list is for the other articles of interest to homeschoolers about education and public school. This can occasionally be a fairly high volume list. Articles pinged to the Another Reason to Homeschool List will be given the keyword of ARTH. (If I remember. If I forget, please feel free to add it yourself)
The main Homeschool Ping List handles the homeschool-specific articles. I hold both the Homeschool Ping List and the Another Reason to Homeschool Ping list. Please freepmail me to let me know if you would like to be added to or removed from either list, or both.
Is that a serious question, or are you just being silly?
