Staff at a Danish zoo where a healthy giraffe was put down have received death threats as debate rages online over the killing, which took place despite a petition signed by thousands of animal lovers.
Several staff members were targeted after the animal, named Marius, was shot Sunday, Copenhagen Zoo spokesman Tobias Stenbæk Bro told CNN on Monday.
The Copenhagen Zoo said it "euthanized" Marius to avoid inbreeding. A veterinarian shot Marius with a rifle as he leaned down to munch on rye bread, a favorite snack. After an autopsy the giraffe was dismembered in front of an audience that included children and fed to the zoo's lions, tigers and leopards.

Indeed,,,even living in a socialist COUNTY can do that to some extent
No, not when it presented them an opportunity to stick to their AGENDA. Where have we seen this before, that hidebound sticking to an AGENDA precludes any thinking or reasoning which might deviate from the AGENDA? May those responsible for killing this beautiful innocent animal burn in hell.
EXACTLY!
*they did it
Perhaps, but not good for the Zoo’s coffers. This was not a good business move.
While I agree that this event is being overblown compared to the 10s of thousands of abortions occurring everyday...
Exercising just dominion over animals is essentially a commandment from God...this event, while perpetrated against an animal, demonstrates a callousness and depravity that could have been avoided.
Respect for life and the laws of nature can be managed better IMO.
And welcome to FR...
why didn’t they just neuter him ???
“why didnt they just neuter him ???”
They said they didn’t want him to take up space...
“After an autopsy the giraffe was dismembered in front of an audience that included children and fed to the zoo’s lions, tigers and leopards.”
An autopsy? Hell,he was shot in the head
Late term abortion.

Shooting an animal like that is not euthanizing it.
Doing it in front of kids is unforgivable.
Killing it in the first place to prevent “inbreeding” is sheer nonsense. I don’t believe they couldn’t have found some zoo who would have accepted it.
The REAL reason comes from that sentence about Walt Disney, nature and kids. Who the hell are these damn idiots anyway?
And I don’t care how many socialist, inbred European Union Morons they dredged up to excuse this act of barbarity.
What institution did you escape from?
In the real world when the zoo have too many giraffes you get feed to the lions...
That’s the bottom line...
cats gotta eat
Clean up your language. If you can’t make a point without F bombs, you don’t have a point.
What a sick, evil group of heartless socialists. It is wrong to kill an animal for the hell of it. I guess this should not surprise me. Abortions are everywhere. Euthanasia is legal in some places. There is no respect for life. No respect for nature and nature’s law.
It was wrong to kill that beautiful creature. It was not sick. It was not suffering. It did not attack someone.
Were these people who asked to watch or did they do this during business hours and start cutting the animal up in front of the unsuspecting customers?
A British zoo offered to take him. People raised $680,000 to buy him. But this crap zoo insisted on killing this poor animal who had grown to trust them, had never known anything but a kind hand from themso they could publicly dissect him for pseudoscientific reasons and then feed him to lions? This zoo should be closed for cruelty to animals.
I too just can’t understand why they didn’t give the animal to another zoo. I had no idea that people raised nearly 700 grand to buy the giraffe. The zoo wasted $700,000 just to provide some meat to its lions? Bizarre.
If the problem was inbreeding, did anybody consider neutering him?
They considered neutering him, but rejected the idea, preferring to kill him.
There were other zoos willing to take him, but they preferred to kill him.
