Average American conservatives, many of them self-associated with the Tea Party movement, are dancing a little jig, this time in warm light. In the negotiated draft of the recently passed omnibus spending bill, they got their beloved incandescent lights back.
Many only realized after a Christmastime flurry of emails that the yellow bulbs were becoming illegal in 2014. In fact, the federal law which nearly made them extinct for home use has been on the books almost seven years.

Those making the heavy usage bulbs are making a killing these days but I can’t see government allowing that to continue.
funny thing about this is - someone pushed these incandescent bulb bans way back to pay off someone. And those who stood to make the most money in the rush to get (force everyone to get) “sensitive, responsible” squiggly-mercury bulbs were likely foreign manufacturers with dubious political intents. But technology being the mother of invention birthed LED bulbs that last 20+ years, use less power than all of them, and is crashing the squiggly market. As these take over, the feel-good mercury bulb pushers who brainwashed our kids into making fun of non-squiggly bulbs ala Communist Youth Leaguers - have lost out to innovators. I’ll take innovation over coercion/compliance any time.
I have more than a years supply of 60 watt incandescent light bulbs on hand. For possibly another year you will be able to buy them in some places as the inventory dwindles.
But at some point it will come home to the masses, when they cannot buy decent light bulbs for their fixtures. Especially the decorative flame bulbs for upscale light fixtures.
LED lights may be a better solution, but at this point they are not practical for many fixtures.
So. When we retake the senate we might be able to move in the direction of returning leadership in this country to the adults. If we still have any adult leadership.
I’m replacing incandescent light bulbs in my house with LED bulbs as the old ones burn out. Yes, the LED bulbs are expensive now, but wait a little while and you’ll see the price come down probably pretty fast. I bought several at Home Depot (the warm light, not the cool light) and I like them just fine.
This article doesn’t make sense. Suddenly, half-way down, we have the incandescent bulb back? Do we? How did that happen? I couldn’t make heads nor tails of it.
The LED’s ain’t cheap on the front end but when we got in our (new to us) house I replaced all the can lights that had the cfl’s with LED’s. Much brighter and supposedly will last a long time making the ROI worth it. Plus, no Hg.

The LEDs suck. The same wattage on an incadescent bulb is much brighter than an LED bulb so it takes about 2 LED bulbs to equal a regular incadescent. So here we go again. Instead of ittaking one flush to clear the toilet bowl it takes 2 or 3. Expect them to try and regulate oxygen consumption Total Recall style next.
I bet we have a 10 year supply of 60s, 100s, and some 3 ways. At least. LOL
Upton and his cronies got all the bribes there were to get, so they don't care any more.
Even though it's legal, the chances that the manufacture will come back from China or Hungary to Schenectady are zero.
What the ban means is you can’t buy light bulbs for $0.50 any longer.
I’ve got eight closet lights that collectively might be turned on for 5 minutes per month. How long is the wait for a ROI in that case?
I don’t think this makes a difference. My understanding is the factories are already closed. If the equipment is still in place, they could reopen them but if they’ve shipped it off, then this is an empty gesture. No jig dancing for me.

I just bought a bunch of 75’s at walmart the other day.
The shelf was full of 10 packs.
They must have already been in the pipeline.
OK, I understand the logic in LED light bulbs. But the supply is simply not there yet.
Now, I think the real cause for this is like the nonsense about Freon. Patent had expired, companies bought the legislatures, redesigned freon, companies made more money.
This is no different. The light bulb manufacturers like GE are political scammers. The politicians are bought whores. Some of them did not realize what they were voting for, but most did.
Yeah, I’ve seen 72’s, 64’s etc...
Looking for that 98 W bulb, though.
