Scumbag trigger-happy cop, one of Maryland’s finest.

I have developed a strong distaste for cops. In the 60’s, my uncle had a donut shop. I remember one cop bragging he was going to shoot some punk when he ran from him. The cops called it “the cop attitude”. If you weren’t a cop you were a perp.

FR needs a “Jack-Booted thug” ping list. This is what American cops have been morphing into for the last ten+ years.
They are young bucks that have watched to many TV cop shows.

I don’t see in the article that the dog was on a leash, or restrained by a fence.

If dogs are allowed to run loose, bad things can happen.

If you injure a K-9, it’s considered an assault on an officer.

Apparently, the cop’s dogs have more rights than people.

When I hear “pit bulls” in a story, I give the cops the benefit of the doubt, but retrievers? Bull$h!t.

“Vern barked and ran toward the officer, prompting the shooting”

Yet, George Zimmerman had to have his head beaten on concrete before he was even considered to be allowed to draw.

The family said the officer wanted to interview a neighbor and was walking across the front yards of homes on the street when the shooting happened.

The officer was basically trespassing across front yards. Just because you have a uniform, gun, and badge does not give you the 'right' to come onto any owners property without permission. Wow. What is it with these da*% cops and dogs?

The dog did what he instinctual knew to do. Run up, bark at you, and look menacing(maybe). The officer was not in an active pursuit, running, etc. so there was no reason ...other than the officer's own stupidity at work here.

Wonder how long it will be until this cop shoots an innocent home owner while executing (pun intended) a ‘no knock warrant’.

I’m curious. How do phone company, power company, cable company, mail delivery, etc. people manage to go to multiple homes each and every day without shooting dogs that bark at them?

I’m guessing the answer is they would be fired and prosecuted for doing such a thing.

The dog was on private property and so was the cop without a warrant.

When the officer went to a home in 900 block of Lombardee Circle in Glen Burnie the dog — a male Chesapeake Bay Retriever named Vern — "confronted" the officer in the front yard, police said. The officer then fired his weapon twice, killing the dog, police said.

Applying the same rule that I do to all police shootings, I ask the simple question, "How would the police respond if I, instead of the policeman, had done precisely the same thing?" In this case, I am 100% certain I would have been arrested and lost my concealed carry.

A dog barking at you on its property is not a vicious dog, and a retriever is about the last dog breed in the world that would can expect to bite. This sissy cop should be fired.

The dog was on ITS property, defending its territory. The cop was an intruder.

This means that all dogs are fair game, any time, anywhere. No dog is safe.

Meanwhile, here in Pittsburgh, we are into a TEN DAY official mourning period (with flags at half staff) in honor of Rocco, a police dog who was stabbed to death by a deranged suspect.

Granted this dog saved the lives of three human officers from a knife-wielding maniac. But now we are seriously considering RAISING THE PENALTY for killing a police dog to actually MORE years than one might reasonably expect to get for killing a HUMAN BEING!

I mean, I love dogs too, but COME ON!
