Chief promises full investigation after Chesapeake Bay Retriever is shot twice in front yard

An Anne Arundel County police officer shot and killed a family's dog Saturday while investigating a burglary, officials said.

Police said the officer — a one-year veteran of the force who was not identified — was canvassing a neighborhood looking for witnesses around 4 p.m. Saturday.

When the officer went to a home in 900 block of Lombardee Circle in Glen Burnie the dog — a male Chesapeake Bay Retriever named Vern — "confronted" the officer in the front yard, police said. The officer then fired his weapon twice, killing the dog, police said.

It’s a shame these people lost their pet, but they share at least part of the blame.

They share none of the blame. All of the blame is on this thug cop. There was no legitimate reason for this tin star punk to start blasting away at this dog.

As someone up thread said, If you or I did this (unless you're a cop) we would be arrested, and rightfully so. Law abiding citizens do not go onto other peoples property and kill their dogs.

The fact that you do not realize this does not speak very highly of you. You are in the vast minority on this thread. You are either trolling, or you are a cop, or one of the resident copsuckers here. I am not sure which one it is, and quite frankly, I don't care. Bye now.

The cop was trespassing on private property without cause or a warrant. Do I have the same right to go uninvited on to someone's property and shoot their dog if it barks at me?

I Love cops.. I have cops in my family.. Cops who Murder Innocent Dogs are Flat Out COWARDS!

I'm a 57 year old woman in poor health.. I was able to chased off a Pit Bull who was intent on ripping apart my Border Collie/Sheltie Mix.. After a Terrifying few minutes of the Pit trying (but failing) to get ahold of my incredibly brave dog, I was able to kick him in the chest with the top of my foot.. To my shock he ran off back across the street to his idiot owner..

These cops don't even try to calm down the dogs they kill.. They show no feelings.. They even kill them when they are tied up or behind a fence.. I do not understand WTH is going on in this country.. Older cops say it was Never like this before.

I have Begged Cesar Milan to offer training to police officers in how to handle dogs.. I don't know if he even tried.. Too many people give ALL cops the benefit of the doubt.. Some might be afraid to critisize authority.. Some may not have the guts to watch the videos or read the stories therefore don't know what is really going on.. They need to Wake Up! It is a War On Dogs.. It has to End!

These damn celebraties who claim to love animals so much need to speak out on this! Watch this and tell me there isn't a problem..

When I watched this I cried so hard.. I had not cried like that since I had lost my older dog. It is beyond Heartbreaking.
