doggieping
I had intended to mention the pure bred mutt too.
A myth. Yes, there are wonderful dogs at a rescue, but there are also dogs with severe emotional problems from bad owners.
YEP...we have one of those “rescue” dogs....she’s the best dog I have ever known....she happens to be part lab, part aussie?
And then they put them in doggie daycare.
Go boxers! I have one rescue and one not. Fun...very fun and loving puppy dogs!
They choose you; it's canine-human speed dating for a match. Something in those abandoned sweethearts can sense when someone is their match, and they turn on the charm.
“Gale Golden” should be raising Golden Retrievers.
We have a dachshund who happened to us when he was 5. His previous owner was a distant owner who had rescued him and then a year later she died. We got him, renamed him, had him chipped and neutered. He’s a sweetie.
“but the best dog is a dog you take from a rescue”
So true. We have two of them a Beagle and a Chihuahua. Both rescued out of our neighborhood as they had been dumped by their owners. Mr. GG2 and I were just saying last night that we could not have gotten two better dogs if we had gone out and bought them. They are a constant joy.
I agree, but there’s something to be said for purebreds too. I’ve only had one dog, A Briard. Got him from a friend who was a breeder. Incredibly smart dogs!
And a GREAT watchdog! Foiled a robbery at my secluded farmhouse. You could see the robbers footprints in the snow. Normal stride walking up to a side window. There he was met by Pandemonium! Strides running back to his truck were about 6’ in length! Pandy musta scared the poop outa him! Bwaaa!
You don’t necessarily get instant gratitude from a rescue dog.
Ours went through phases - quiet, meek and hungry, autistic, would-be dominant, stalker of little children, jumping greeter of everyone, good dog, ferocious self-appointed guard dog, good dog.
I don’t think she was ever abused or neglected, but she went through a at least three shelters and foster homes before she came to us. Now she is secure but there is not a drop of gratitude in her, any more than there is in a small child. She loves us but takes us for granted.
Labs are plain nuts. I got one that swims like an otter but try to give him a bath and it is like you were trying to dip him in acid. Makes no sense.
None of the top ten even make my top four.
Havanese is the best breed though :-)

Our 11 year old black Lab Titus was rescued from a really bad situation in Alaska in 2002. Our yellow Lab Jewel was given to us by an elderly man who could not keep her. Our Bichon Frise and Bichon/Shi-Tzu cross (Be Shiht?) were taken from homes where they were unwanted. They are all great dogs living in their forever home now.
All three of our cats are rescues too.
I have had 5 labs over the years. They all have different personalities but the males have the most interesting personality quirks and were the worst chewers.
All ADORABLE doggies but once again no love for the Shih Tzu and Pomeranian..my poochies will be crushed
