Stather's friends were waiting on the canyon floor for him to complete his second jump when he never landed, azfamily.com reports.

The friends hiked out of the canyon and found his body about 2,000 feet from the top and called the police, according to a Coconino County Sheriff's Office spokesperson. Authorities said Stather was wearing a wing suit and parachute popular among those who do the activity.

Wing suits. These are the ones you can build real speed with and actually “fly” around with. More than one person has died doing this. I recall the one where two guys were flying and one hit a bridge. They were aiming to go under it and one made it but the other didn’t.

Saw the video...he came in about 18 inches too low, and smacked the pedestrian guardrail on the far side of the bridge, after clearing the near side. Sound of impact was sickening.

no i’ve seen the videos, they are flying just like any glider. rather fast, they can ride updrafts and exercise control where they want to go.

however the “control” part is key. you must have it or the result isn’t pretty.
