In no particular order:
Its just one more place on the Internet for your friends to pick fights with you. Make a joke. Express an opinion. Utter a simple statement of fact. Doesnt matter. Somebody who at one point expressly asked to be your friend will harangue you about it. Theyre as dumb as YouTube commenters, except theyve specifically asked to be part of your life.

Lots of spam on LinkedIn. And fake accounts.
Same here.
So, if you do quit Facebook, do you have to update your status with an Opus?
They can be useful though. Some post interesting song videos...friends and relatives can show themselves and where they travel (but be careful about “I’m having a great time in Florida!”—open invite for burglars).
I help promote blues, folk, rock shows in Boston area on college radio etc and we promote festivals, shows, open mic nights etc. Show a video of a New Orleans-style performer
on New Year’s Eve. Plug someone’s new album, etc.
But the politics can suck!
I don’t have a face I would want in a book, and nary a twit to twitter, so I’ve avoided both, and feel none the worse for it.
LinkedIn is basically a web-based Rolodex, one in which your contacts keep their information (business, phone, e-mail) up to date, freeing you from that onerous task.
Thanks for the update. Hope it works for you. What an honor to NEVER be “allowed” to sign back up. LOL! :>]
No doubt the info is out there. I stumbled across my “yearbook” from bootcamp at GLNTC in ‘67 out there on the web. Pictures and all. WTH?
I must add that through FB I have met cousins I never knew I had, have made new real-life friends, have learned a great deal, and have been introduced to heretofore-unsuspected riches of conservative literature. I can’t tell you how my life has been enriched by corresponding with and learning from people whom I would never otherwise have known.
So did I. Who knew that I had cousins in Nigeria?
The article addresses none of the legitimate reasons for quitting facebook, only the stupid childish ones.
Facebook and twitter are the two stupidest things ever thought of.

I know. Like you, I wish I’d thought of them first.
HAHAHA!! Yep, that’s my thought! I hope they NEVER let me on again! I posted a lot of anti-lib stuff on there. They were glad to be rid of me, I’m sure! I got off after the election. Couldn’t stand the libs gloating on there anymore.
Whew! For a moment I thought you said you had cousins in Niagara Falls.
NIAGARA FALLS!!!!!
(Slowly I turn...step by step...closer I come....)
;^)
The irony of many of the comments is missed.....
I took it just one step further by first changing all personal information, delinking to all photos, and deleting photos, etc. Let it sit for a few weeks. Then, closed the account permanently.
Ive got about 200 friends on there. Only about 30 or 40 of them post something more than once a month. Most people are smart enough not to discuss politics ect.
Stay positive and its a harmless tool.
Theres plenty of websites you can give your opinions and make a fool of yourself and it doesnt make a difference.
Including this one.
Facebook seems to be the biggest short in the history of the stock market.
Its only a question of time as to when this fad passes.
True story. A friend’s wife has a FaceBook account. She probably shouldn’t have access to a computer. Anyway, she opens her e-mail one evening when I happened to be there. One of those banner ads for something or other shows up at the top of her e-mail home page. It read: “Three People Have Un-Friended you”.
She believed it and got all huffy. I wanted to laugh, but I just had to leave her believing that what she had just read was the truth...
