A hearing will be held today at 3:15 p.m. to decide the fate of Marlise Munoz and her pre-born baby, now 22 weeks gestation. Her husband, Erick Munoz, will ask the court to order John Peter Smith Hospital to terminate life support for his wife and baby.
JPS Hospital is complying with a state law that requires hospitals to maintain life support for pregnant women in order to give their children a chance at survival.
munoz3Pro-life leaders, including Pastor Stephen Broden of Fair Park Bible Fellowship and Founder of National Black Pro-Life Coalition, plan to attend todays hearing in support of Marlise and her child. Marlise has been on life-support since she collapsed at home in November when she was 14 weeks pregnant.
The Munoz family says they were told Marlise is brain dead although their baby continues to live and grow. However, the determination of brain death is a controversial one that is based on varying indicators, depending on who is making the diagnosis.
The public has been given the erroneous impression that Marlise is a dead and decaying corpse. This assumption is completely false. Marlises heart continues to beat and she continues to nourish her pre-born baby. A rotting corpse cannot do that, said Troy Newman, President of Operation Rescue. As for the baby, we have information that diagnostic tests have not been done on the baby to support allegations that there are developmental anomalies, but even if the baby does have health issues, that baby still does not deserve to be killed.
Even if the Munoz baby has suffered disabilities due to Marlises condition, numerous people have expressed an interest in adopting the Munoz baby even if he or she has special needs.
Abortion groups like NARAL have coldly sided with Marlises husband in calling on the hospital to kill Marlise and her baby.
munoz4Some people want to decide who lives and who dies based on their personal criteria. If that was allowed, none of our lives would be safe. We simply cannot murder sick or inconvenient people just because we dont want the hassle of caring for them. That is a dangerous road that will only end up unjustly depriving vast numbers of people of their right to life, just as we have seen with the issue of abortion, said Newman.
The court hearing will be held today at the 96th District Court, 7th Floor, 401 W. Belknap in Ft. Worth at 3:15 p.m. It is open to the public. Pro-life supporters are encouraged to attend. A prayer vigil outside the court is also planned.
Also, a Prayer vigil in support of Marlise and her baby will be held outside JPS hospital on Sunday, January 26, at 3:00 pm.
So. I wonder if/when they found out the baby was deformed. Was it before she collapsed? Maybe she wanted to keep it regardless and he didn’t. How, precisely, did she collapse? Did the husband have anything to do with that?
Just some questions I have.
You and me both. I’d like to know more about the circumstances of her ‘collapse’. And when she/they found out about any developmental abnormalities. And if her wishes to avoid life support would have included being pregnant at the time. And were these wishes in writing?
Questions.
If she wanted to kill the baby, she would have had an abortion. She didn’t. She wanted the baby to live. Why assume now that she wants the baby dead?
tell me again how she got that way ???
No not 22 weeks
that is miracle survival, viability is now at about 24-25 weeks and even that is slim
if the baby can make it another 6 weeks it has a good chance
that is why this family is stepping it up
got to murder her child in the 2d trimester
“she would have wanted it that way”
shur
Daddy wants to move on, unencumbered by a baby, so he is trying desperately to prevent that little from exiting alive to the air world. If daddy has his way, the child will never get asked ... but I do like your way of posing that conundrum!
“No baby has ever survived a lot younger than 22 weeks. Earliest survival is 23 weeks and change”
21 weeks, 5 days.
she didnt leave directives
it is all hearsay by her family that she never wanted to live this way
well, d’oh, who does?
But bet they never asked her if she was pregnant and the baby had a chance, would she want them to pull the plug?
I just don’t get this family
They do not deserve that child, for sure
There are adopters waiting for the baby regardless of his condition
I hope they do a test to make sure the baby is in fact his before making any decisions.
He already has a kid. Bet this kid isn’t his.
Erick Munoz should be shunned by any man who is a man regardless of whether he wins or loses this despicable lawsuit seeking judicial permission to slaughter his own unborn infant.
Personally, I don’t care if the alive child is barry soetoro’s bastard child, the child is an alive human being and ought to be protected. That is one cold sonofabitch working so hard to kill that unborn child.
I don’t care whose kid he/she is, either. All I know is that this sniveling excuse for a human being is trying way too hard to get rid of his wife and her child.
There is something wrong with this guy.
A. Dad has no rights. Ever. In anything.
B. But to not kill mom and baby, admits that baby is indeed baby and not clump of cells, tissue or whatever term is fashionable these days.
Either sets a bad precedent for the moonbats.
The judge just ruled the family can take her off life support. I have to believe that the doctors testified that the baby has no chance of survival. I just have to believe this. I am so sorry that this baby has to die. It would not have been my decision. I would have not ruled this way. I pray God will not let this baby die in pain.
The Munoz family already have a child. This was going to be their second child.
Yes, the woman is dead. As to the naturalness of the death, I will not say it was or wasn’t. But when God has given us the technology to preserve nascent life, shouldn’t it be society’s duty to do everything its power to protect this life? The child is by no means dead. Should we just do things medically according to what has been done in the past? C-sections have been done to dead women...should we just let these children die? The judge has no good reason to sanction this child’s death.
It’s a hard situation, but I think the family should be able to do what they want without government interference. Yes, we have all these life saving abilities now, but sometimes I just think it’s best to let nature take it’s course.
