Thanks for the link.
Be prepared for a sinking bed.
It will be a good place to store sticks and leaves.
But just use it for annuals.
I have 8 inches of weak topsoil, 14 inches of sand under that, and clay to the center of the earth, so far as I'm concerned.
Water hits the sand layer and percolates down to flow away on the clay layer. I have problems keeping the topsoil moist unless I mulch very heavily. There just isn't much to hold water on my ground.

My weather report says 28 for tomorrow night, Tuesday night. Are you getting that on your source of weather?

It rolls over rough ground a lot easier than our smaller handtruck.
My hugelkultur space settles A Lot every year. I am always topping it off.
My native soil is opposite yours: one foot of clay and then rocks. Rocks till the center of the earth. When it is dry it is like concrete and when it is wet it is like baby poop. So, the heavy heavy always decomposing organic mulch is the best for my home property. Unfortunately the public farm is almost nine acres and I cannot mulch all that. My favorite store bought mulch is wheat straw - pretty cheap.
I've brought in at least 5 pick-up truck loads, and it just disappears into the sand after a couple of years. I'll keep getting it, but I think I need a few dump truck loads to make a dent in my soil.
I also have my compost pile, and all the leaves I collect and shred. I have folks that will drop off bags of leaves here for me.
It's just a forever kind of thing. I guess I should have started amending the soil 40 years ago when I had the chance. Youth is wasted on the young.

LOL!

What were you thinking?
And I got to this location bout five years ago. A little late in the game to fix less than perfect soil.
Hey, but there will be perfect soil in Heaven!
that’s funny
is that a catnip cat?
Very sad indeed.
I did raise chickens and rabbits on this land, so I was putting nutrients into the soil back then, just not on the scale I should have.

50 years ago you did not know that you would provide your food, drink and smoke from that land.
Beautiful plant! I can’t believe it grew from that microscopic seed! What kind of potting soil did you use?
43tonight, 27 tomorrow night,38,28,26,35 for the next few nights. Aint that a roller coaster ride?
We have 2, this one is our bigger one with pneumatic tires, and will traverse roots, which is our obstacles. The smaller one for smaller jobs.
Thanks for the links!
I like the idea of freezing the lemon juice into cubes. Those cubes would come in very handy.
All the lemons I ever get are Lisbon and Eureka. That’s why I want to grow Meyer. I’ve actually never tasted it but lots of recipes I see these days call for Meyer.
The ice cube thing is what I use for freezing yogurt to be used for starter in homemade yogurt and for excess raw eggs. One cube = 1 whole egg or separate whites and yolks. And when you have to open a 6 oz can of tomato paste but only need 2T for the recipe. Nifty things, those ice cube trays!

That means put the moving blankets over the plants by tomorrow night and take them off the next day since the forecast is 38, then put blankets back on for the next two nights, then take them off the next day. Yes, a roller coaster.
