Good for Baseball, and good the Yankees. I assume they don’t have to pay him now.
Forced retirement.
bump
I think it’s time for the Rod to hang up his cleats and start doing liberal, pre-games sob stories on ESPN.
He was already suspended last summer. He lost the appeal.
That’s what I was wondering, if they have to keep paying.
Normally, I would think that this would amount to a violation of some sort of moral standards clause or whatever.
But I bet he’s got some pretty high priced legal staff that tweaked some of that stuff in his favor.
I have zero respect for the dude since he left the Mariners, so no skin off my nose.
I truly detest the man and his ilk....
but now my never worn Seattle Mariner shirt with Pay rods picture on it will be worth even more!
Isn’t this a victory A-Rod? He’s only getting a little over a year suspension? He still has 3 years on his contract after that. Could he have done any better than this?
His Yankees contract goes until 2017. I doubt he’ll turn than money down no matter hoe badly he’s laying.
A year off at his age is HUGE.
Perhaps a buy out of the last two years and free agency?
A year is a long time to miss for a 38 year old. Although look what Manning has done.
The guys who just took the suspension were smart. Jhonny Peralta took his suspension and got to play in the post season games.
At this point I’m not even sure A-Rod even wants to play the game. In the 2012 post season he seemed happy as a clam sitting on the bench.
I'm wondering if the Yankees won't take the position of "Look we hired you for X number of years, not X-1. If you can't play X number of years because of you own misconduct, you've breached the contact. Hit the pike; we don't owe you anything."

Bushs fault!
As it should be.
I read a couple of days ago that his decision was about forfeiting 13M in salary vs. 10M in legal fees to fight the ruling. It seemed to be mainly about the cost.
It seems to me the team has a good case against him if they want to break the full contract right now. He’s suspended because of his own behavior, the team didn’t put a gun against his head to make him juice. I’m pretty sure he’s unpaid for the suspension period, but I’m wondering what comes after.
The team’s attorneys know better than I.
The Yankees are desperate to get rid of him. They could still have Cano, if they had dumped him already. If there was ANY way the Yankees could get rid of him they would. But they can’t so far, and it doesn’t look like they can. He’s not going anywhere, because no one will pay him that much now.
