When humans bring a dog into their lives, they are most often looking for a companion; what they may not realize is that they are getting a teacher as well.

Which direction is North?
The researchers also noted that while most dogs preferred to poop while facing north or south, most dogs also avoided facing east or west. But why? The answer remains elusive, the scientists admitted.
It is still enigmatic why the dogs do align at all, whether they do it consciously (i.e., whether the magnetic field is sensorial[ly] perceived) or whether its reception is controlled on the vegetative level (they feel better/more comfortable or worse/less comfortable in a certain direction), the study authors wrote.
The researchers also found that when the Earths magnetic field was in a state of flux it changes during solar flares, geomagnetic storms and other events the dogs north-south orientation was less predictable. Only when the magnetic field was calm did researchers reliably observe the north-south orientation.

Lol.
My dog taught me to never ever touch the leash unless I intend to use it.
My sister and I share that cartoon often. Our family dog, while growing up, was a ‘Ginger.’ :)
Re: Ginger
I had a black and white Malamute when I was a kid I named Ginger. Had no idea the name was supposed to be reflective of the dog’s color. Orangery tan, as in the spice Ginger, as if I had even heard of the spice at the time.
“According to popular hair dressers, ginger hair color is one of the most misunderstood shades and often make the mistake is made of thinking that the client wanted ginger while in fact they wanted either reddish, copper, of even strawberry blonde hair colors. When you look at redhead children we actually see a ginger head, ginger is the balance between orange and gold (yellow) with a hue of brown and when you are formulating split your orange and golds equally and add a bite of brown, now you have ginger.”

Oh I think they have a little more vocabulary than that. Walk, bath, go, PetSmart all get major reactions.
Over time she turned elderly, contracted a terminal disease and left this world without a moan or whimper.
During this time I too became older & contracted a chronic illness. I learned a lot from that dog as her days came to an end.
Dogs are God's noblest creature IMO. (My eyes are all welled up as I type)
I’m sorry for your loss.
Cookie and Treat. Mine also knew Bird.
Deepest condolances. I had to put my Golden Retriever (the best) in February due to Pancreatic cancer. He was 12 and he also went quietly. It was a relief to see him relax, but I still well up when I think of him.

I’m sorry for your loss. My 14 year old Standard Poodle died in November. He taught me much about living and dying.
Little One with the dog on the leash and the mud puddle reminded me of my nephew when he was about that age.
His folks had a fairly long dirt/gravel driveway and seveal mud puddles after a rain. When Nephew went outside to play, I watched him from a distance. He managed to jump into every mud puddle in the driveway.
He was kid. That is what kids did.
Also, he had a large mutt dog who watched and protected him at every step.
re: Dogs are God’s noblest creature IMO.
I totally agree. I also believe that dogs are among God’s greatest gifts to mankind.
One of our dogs recently passed away as well. We are still grieving and know we will for a long time. He was such a sweet blessing to our family.
The saying is true, that you finally know you are getting older when you realize that you will never have all the dogs you wanted to.
