Situation Excellent

January 4, 2014

At the First Battle of the Marne during World War I, French lieutenant general Ferdinand Foch sent out this communiqué: “My center is giving way, my right is retreating. Situation excellent. I am attacking.” His willingness to see hope in a tough situation eventually led to victory for his troops.

Sometimes in life’s battles we can feel as if we are losing on every front. Family discord, business setbacks, financial woes, or a decline in health can put a pessimistic spin on the way we look at life. But the believer in Christ can always find a way to conclude: “Situation excellent.”

Look at Paul. When he was thrown in prison for preaching the gospel, he had an unusually upbeat attitude. To the church at Philippi he wrote, “I want you to know, brethren, that the things which happened to me have actually turned out for the furtherance of the gospel” (Phil. 1:12).

Paul saw his prison situation as a new platform from which to evangelize the Roman palace guard. In addition, other Christians became emboldened by his situation to preach the gospel more fearlessly (vv.13-14).

God can use our trials to work good in spite of the pain they bring (Rom. 8:28). That’s just one more way He can be honored.

Comfort us, Lord, when life’s trials assail—
we fail and stumble so often. Renew us, and
help us to grow so that others may also
know Your goodness and comfort.
Trials can be God’s road to triumph.

I have a plow on my lawn tractor and it is working well. Problem is it is so cold getting out there and being able to stay out there long enough to do all the plowing is tough.

Next year I am getting a small 4 wheel drive with a plow to do this.

The Florida Panther i saw was at the Seminole Rez, in a large, interesting enclosure with climbing frames and secret places where she could hide.
She seemed quite content, even though it was a “zoo” kind of setting.

She had a pretty face, much like your photo, but she had a butt that would have made moochelle proud. LOLZ

And the bone she was enjoying looked like it had come off a T-Rex.

I wouldn’t want to tangle with her.

Hello again my friend:

I was driving into my music teacher's neighborhood, saw the Christmas trees already curbside, and some of his neighbors outside with ladders taking down their displays. This came from that experience.

Keep them up
Keep flipping that switch
when the sun goes down
Be the last house in the neighborhood
If need be

Little lights in the dark, cold, January air
Staging their quiet rebuttal
One last hurrah until some time after
Epiphany

Sure the presents are all opened
Yes, all the sales are done
The shops and stores are already gearing up
for spring

But keep the lights up for just a little while
Longer
Remind thy neighbor
And thyself
Of this hallowed
and Gracious
Time
When God gave humanity
A precious
Second
Chance
