Wife, 2 women charged in death of Branchville (SC) Fire Chief

ORANGEBURG COUNTY, SC — Three women, including the victim’s wife, have been arrested and charged in connection with the stabbing death of Branchville Fire Chief Alan Oakley.

Melody Turner Oakley, 40, Ann M. Anderson, 47, and Carrie Ashley Brown, 25 have been charged with murder and conspiracy.

SLED Spokesman Thom Berry said Melody Oakley was Alan Oakley’s wife.

Oakley was stabbed to death on Saturday.

Arrest warrants say the three women “planned and carried out the murder of Alan Oakley by stabbing him in the neck resulting in his death.”

The three women are being held at the Orangeburg-Calhoun Regional Detention Center.

SLED and the Branchville Police Department investigated the case.

The only one who looks even moderately ashamed is the black girl. The white girls look kinda mean.

Of course, the man may have been a jerk, too. And he was powerful because of his position.

I lived in a CA town once where a politically and law-enforcement connected guy shot his ex-wife to death (through the window while she was eating an artichoke in her kitchen) and didn’t even get prosecuted until it became such a scandal that nobody could ignore it. And then I lived in a Florida town where any sheriff’s deputy or LE connected person could do anything he wanted to any woman he knew.

So there may be more to this. That doesn’t justify the killing, because there’s always a better way, but it may help to explain what would get three very different women involved in this.
