On the way back from the store this morning, I saw a fully grown, wild bald eagle sitting in the middle of a field near where I used to live. This is absolutely the very first wild bald eagle I have ever seen in my life (I saw a captive one at school once). Unfortunately I didn't have a camera, but . . . wow!
You know, sometimes when everything is going to pot and I'm tempted to just give up, something like this happens. It's a reminder that however totalitarian the left becomes, they can't control or social-engineer nature. Nature just goes on and on, absolutely unchanging and beyond the schemes of any human beings.
I suppose their powerlessness over nature is one reason the libs beat their chests so loudly and claim to be "lovers of nature." They might as well, since they can't do anything about it. So they just tell themselves they don't want to socially engineer the natural world as they double down on forcing us to live in a sewer. I mean, really . . . they couldn't change nature if they wanted to.
To that eagle--to all G-d's creatures--the world is going along as it always has since the Creation. The schemes of evil men have no power over them. For all the loud "nature loving" the left does, I think it is we who need this lesson the most. Nothing has really changed. All the totalitarian measures in the world cannot change the way things are, or alter the laws of G-d.
Good to remember sometimes.
I saw one in front of my house. when he got up a few hundred feet, every bird in the area ran for cover.
Are you sure it was alive?? Are their any wind farms nearby? They usually don’t lay down when they sleep...
I'm too paranoid to tell anyone where I live (other than it's in the puritanical and philo-Semitic Upper South), but I can tell you that bald eagles are not common here, though I've heard of them being seen lately. Maybe they'll become more common (I certainly hope so!).
Buzzards, crows, and hawks on the other hand are quite common here. It's not at all unusual to see a beautiful red tailed hawk sitting on the power lines as one drives down the road. They're really beautiful birds too.
Thanks again to everyone.
Bald eagles fish the Mississippi River behind my house. Can see them soaring up and down the river from my deck...
We live in So Central Gnu Yak and have a place just south of us in PA...we see Eagles fishing in our Lake and last year one soared over our car as we were heading down there...majestic!
I see a couple of dozen a year. I have worked in chemical plants most of my life and Bald Eagles love that fact plant are usually isolated and near water. Last time I saw one it was sitting in a small tree about 25 feet off of a major interstate highway.
That sounds thrilling!
You're going to think I'm being sarcastic, but I'm not. The closest I've ever come to your experience with the eagles is being buzzed by bats hunting insects. When mosquitoes and gnats are giving you a hard time bats'll sometimes practically shave you to get a bite. No, it's not a bald eagle, but it's pretty exciting. And I mean that in a good way.
We have a nest visable from the road a couple of miles from home. It’s a thrill to see them soar high above, swooping down over lake to eat or perched in the trees near their nest.
Never get tired of watching them.
I know where a nest is, just can’t get close enough on the mobility scooter.
Go to Alaska, they are just about everywhere.
Not at all! I'm a big fan of bats and let everyone around here know that I will help them remove them if they get them in their home and turn them loose. Many people still kill them. I just rescued one last week. I turn them loose at home and many seem to have stayed around.
We have been taking care of the land and the ego-system for generations. This is hands on and not an out of a book or Disney experience. This is real knowledge learned from years of passion for the beauty around us.
The biggest problem facing our wildlife is the encroachment of people into their habitat. Read that as flat-lander city slickers moving to the more remote areas. The first thing they do when they get there is try and make it just like where they came from. Where they came from has no eagles and there is a reason for that.
We are in the mountains of Northern Cali. It is beautiful here and we fully intend to keep it that way. Some may wonder why this area wants to be a separate state from the Cali cities. Who in their right mind would want the city folks making all the legislative decisions and passing new laws because they think they know what is better than us. Not me, not us.
I hear the rumbling laughter from the city folks in their belief that we can not support ourselves or support our own state. We can. We will sell you water by the drop, not charge you too much for all the power that crosses our lands on the way to the cities, and promise to not interrupt your supply of fresh food but there will be that extra export fee. Then there is the problem with all of your garbage. Land fills are expensive to run and the charges will be significant. There are several other things on the list but they can be investigated and explored by our new state legislature.
Yes, we can not only survive but prosper. We are looking forward to the day we can send two more conservative senators to our nations capital. Giggle some more morons.
And from Free Republic's resident professional birder, welcome to the team!
Bald eagles is practically chickens
We’ve seen four at once, up at Odell Lake in Oregon. We even shot a video of one circling above us. When we played it back, it was unintentionally funny, as the sound of the boat motor & the bird in the air made it seem like a motorized eagle. Too bad I lost that video in a computer crash. :-(
I'm a lucky guy. Here's a pic I took of one of two eagles sitting in a tree in my back yard. ;-)
I was camping on the north fork of the Yuba river about 15 years ago with two of my kids. We had gotten up early to fish for breakfast when an eagle went upriver, not more than 10 feet over our heads. It was utterly breathtaking...the kids still talk about it.
