CLEMSON, SC (FOX Carolina) - A video of a Dorman High School student with Down syndrome getting his acceptance letter into Clemson is going viral.

The parents of 20-year-old Rion Holcombe turned on their camera when they got the letter in the mail and uploaded his stunned reaction to YouTube.

"My heart started to jump out of my chest so this is what happened when I got this envelope," Rion said in an interview on Thursday.

“The ClemsonLIFE program is for people with intellectual disabilities and is aimed to give them an opportunity to have “postsecondary experience on a college campus,” according to the program’s website.

Why?”

Possibly to qualify them to become Pooblik Skrewl Collective teachers?

So true, but it is not college. About 50% of the college course tracks that result in a college degree actually produce nothing other than a degree holder that lives in their parents’ basement with $60,000 to $150,000 in student loan debt and no prospects.

To learn life skills like looking gor an appropriate job, shopping, preparing meals, sharing an apartment or other home, handling money etc. Their parents are not going to live forever. It’s a good program.

No... It says it's to give them a "post secondary experience". There are lots of adult-education outfits that specialize in life skills for developmentally disabled adults. My mom used to teach at one. This seems a bit wasteful to burn a seat at the college level for someone that isn't there for that.

We got a single page. All the forms-to-fill-out, post-acceptance, are online now.

It isn’t college. Re-read it, it’s a program Clemson providers
