Ok I finally bought a Tv. Bought it through Amazon and took out Amazon Prime. So far not impressed, difficult to navigate through the DVD player with no way to input what I want. Not impressive films that I can see and the new films are charged to my account. I am on their free thirty day trial.
Input folks?
What do you use for streaming? I do plan on getting Netflix mailed to me, but what else is there out there. So far I have a Blue Ray HD player, a sound system and tv. Do I need to hook up computer too?
Your thoughts?
I am a big fan of the $50 Roku for streaming netflix and Amazon prime movies and shows. I canceled my cable.

I think my TV and my DVD player both stream. So I guess that means I don’t need Roku? I guess it is a streamer machine not a place to get movies.
I bought a Roku player and really like it.
The best thing to do is to use a different laptop, computer, etc to create a watch list of content on Amazon Prime so it is easy to find on your Smart TV. If you have a home network, it is really fun setting up a Plex Media Server (free software) and stream any content you have on computers on your home network. I have a PC with a large hard drive devoted to content and stream to my Roku from it.
I’ve only watched TV shows I’d missed because some sporting event overran and my DVR didn’t compensate.
Try Crackle.
Same idea as Hulu but *lots* of good stuff.
Where else can you find the terrifying 70’s ‘evil devil worshiping adults/talking killer dolls’ horror movie Brotherhood Of Satan” with Strother Martin?
Nowhere, that’s where....:D
NetFlix no longer has American Psycho but they ^ do.
We have Netflix, Vudu for new movies (about $5), Amazon Prime and Redbox.
While there are some streaming services on Roku that we have never gotten into, we use Roku to stream the others, so it isn’t really different.
Combining Netflix and Amazon Prime is probably the way we use streaming services the most. If something isn’t on Netflix, I check to see if Amazon Prime has it. There are so many things on Netflix now that I won’t have time to ever get through them.
I have recently been watching Murdoch Mysteries (late 1900s crime drama out of Canada). Netflix had seasons 1-3, Amazon has 4 and 5.
Just read today that Roku can support Youtube now, also. Lots of content on Youtube (tv shows, documentaries).
Me too! Raised the quality of life for me!
I bought ROKU. Am disappointed and rarely watch it.
Skooz I have to agree. I subscribe to both Netflix and Amazon Prime and enjoy both and besides if you buy anything from Amazon you get free two day shipping. The selections are such that I disconnected my satellite TV and went streaming only and don’t miss a thing about the high Direct TV bills (140 bucks a month). I am a reader so I must say I am not the perfect judge on what service to get, however my wife is a TV junkie and she loves both services and does not miss regular TV at all.
I like the foreign shows on DramaFever and Viki
HuluPlus also has a lot of foreign shows I like, Korean ones in particular
We’re happy with our Roku. We do watch Netflix via the Roku, but we watch a lot of other “channels”, too. We’re not Mormon, but there’s a show on the BYU channel called “Story Trek” that we like a lot. Beats the heck out of the garbage showing on network/cable t.v.
I have been reading Phineas Finn online, I think it was published in the 1850’s or something
I have Netflix and Amazon Prime. Also Redbox is a good source of current films. And, if you know how, rentals can be added to your library. And, check your local library for movies.
The text size on Amazon prime is horrible. Even standing at the tv you struggle to read details such as pricing and movie description.
Netflix is good (streaming) but selection is limited.
I pay $10 per month for netflix. Get my news and information from the web.
did you buy a smart tv? If so, or if your BluRay has WiFi you don’t need to hook up your PC. However, many BD’s have the capability of accessing movies and files on your PC. Samsung has a system called “All Share” and I can watch movies on PC through my BD player on my TV.
If you have Amazon Prime, Netflix, and most networks are now putting episodes directly on the web, you can watch most things now on cable. I still have cable but it really isn’t necessary anymore unless the programming comes from a premium channel (HBO, SHOWTIME, etc).
bfl
The TV is smart and the Blue Ray is smart.
both smarter than me she said ruefully.
You must have a small TV? No problem reading the Prime text on our 55 inch TV.
I don’t pay for anything. If you have Internet access on the tv check out project free tv and solarmovies.
I bought Netflix, Amazon Prime and Hulu Plus all for different reasons ..Very cheap (about less then 30 dollars a month). MUCH LESS THEN CABLE! You see current TV shows on Hulu the next day. It is so worth it.
