“I am a little surprised that Barack Hussein Obama High School is not one of the choices for the proposed new name.”
or Nelson Mandela High.
“Tapioca School for the Bland, Politically Correct, and Culturally Sensitive” wasn’t available?
I’ve been wondering for years now when Robert E. Lee High School here in San Antonio will apologize for its racist heritage and change its name to something more PC.
My choice is Marion Barry High but I was told that would be redundant!
I missed attending that very school by mere months.
Such is the tumbleweed life of a Mil Brat.
I've already posted this once today -- to a N Korea thread.
I almost posted it to a current thread about Robert E Lee and Stonewall Jackson being made un-persons, but I held off.
But I'll post it here instead.
Stalinist times, friends. Living or dead, you can be made to disappear.
OMG!
This is Florida?
Welcome to Trayvon Martin High!
I vote for Redskins.
We have a Barack Obama High School here in Pittsburgh.
Except the sports teams are all called “University Prep.”
This avoids embarrassing headlines like “Obama Whipped by North Catholic” or “West Mifflin Slaughters Obama”.
They should name it after Sen. Robert Byrd (D-KKK).
Given that its on the Westside of town I’m suprised too. Forest always had a crummy football team when I was in HS. Its prolly numero uno now. :-)
Gump High would be a good name for them.
I didn’t think of that one. It will probably be in the running.
Knockout High
Gimme Pie High
Well one of the choices is Firestone and that kinda relates to nellie mandellie.
Is it Stalinism when people in Russia rename Leningrad as Saint Petersburg?
Or when people in Germany rename Karl Marx Stadt as Chemnitz?
The people who attend the school, and the people whose taxes finance the school, have every right to name the school after historical figures that they like.
They are not denying the fact that Forrest existed. They are denying that Forrest was a person they think worthy of honor or respect to the extent of naming a school after him.
If the people who originally named the school after him had stayed in the area, if they had peopled the school with their children, if they had maintained their high regard for Forrest over that period of time, then there would be no desire to change the name.
Oh Gawd... their letting the students do it??
What are the choices??
Nelson Mandela High?
Mylie Cyrus High?
RU High?
