Oh my gosh, my sister used to make those! They weren’t very good, I think people bought them because they felt sorry for her :)
They didn’t have Blatz, near us, I think the first time I saw it was in Syracuse. The name sounded so funny, to me, I thought it was some kind of joke!
Item D on your list: Cheap shot!
I see your sense of humor bypass was a success ..
I bought a *Mercer Beasley* racket with my savings. Look at the price of one on eBay LOL
I wonder what you’d need to charge for your potholders, these days, to make that purchase? I bought my first tennis racket for $16 at Caldors in CT, mowing lawns for about $2 to $3 each, depending on the lawn size. Best part - tax free income !
So, did you put all those quarters into the slots?
Not all of them. Between video poker and slots, I finished up about $75 on the positive side. I think it was the only time I left town with more money in my pocket, then when I arrived !
When I was still a poor law student, my undergrad buddies came into town and wanted me to join them at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway for qualifications. I had $5.27 in my bank account, so I had enough money to get in to the track. Didn’t know what I was going to drink so I went around the house and the car to scrounge up $1.59 for a 6 pack of BUCKHORN. I met my friends and was drinking my beer when three 12 year olds came up. The ringleader said “hey mister, can I have one of those?” I told him I thought he was a little young to be drinking and he said he wanted an empty can. He collected beer cans and said “I’ve never seen anyone drink that before.”
Maybe a buck? Caldors brings back memories. Goodness! We got *everything* there....then along came Ames....and neither exist, but only in our warped memories.
Did your sis make those yarn snakes? with the spool thing

Using mom's yarn scraps; we'd coil them into potholder type circles, coasters and chair seat covers. Gawd that was so long ago.
That method sounds familiar, one of my pals always got his beer money by mining the couch cushions, after his Dad woke up from a nap.
No, she didn’t make those, but since you mentioned:
1) Bought my first music at Grants - “Hanky Panky” by Tommy James, and The Shondells. Had to make two trips, because the lady on the phone said the 45RPM record was 69 cents, but I had no clue about sales tax, so I was a few cents short, when I showed up, at the cash register.
2) My first ‘real’ job was at Woolworth’s. Minimum wage had just gone up to $2.01 an hour. I cleared $31 the first week, and thought I was rich!
The good old days - they were good, and I am old ;)
I was in the local Food Lion a week ago when they announced that their EBT was down.......never seen so many people leave a store at the same time.
We like the Wegmans in Chili Center. It's also like the town square and we always seem to run into somebody we know there. We get a lot of their store brands which are pretty cheap and are good quality.
Wegmans truck drivers and warehouse workers are in the Teamsters Union and they've been having a dispute about their pension system (check out the comments from the unionistas, they're a hoot):
I actually haven’t noticed any aggressive snobbery in Whole Foods employees, just the customers.
No, generally employees are OK. Most people are OK but you know they’ll get holier-than-thou when they see my “COEXIST?” sticker.
actually i live in Fayetteville... home of Fort Bragg... we often visit friends and family and Swansboro--which i love... i do have to say that Fayetteville boasts a variety of restaurants--especially steakhouses... with the strong military presence, it is necessary... and i like it!
i just returned from 16 days in the Bay Area... i hosted two social gatherings while i was there... i was in heaven being able to choose from 5 different brands of gorgonzola cheese! and sourdough bread--almost unheard of here! :)
p.s.--a bottle of Glenlivet 15 Scotch in the Bay Area was about $40 a bottle... here--even at the commissary, it is $60! i purchased Six Grapes Port in Santa Cruz for $15 dollars a bottle... and bought it here NC for $20 a bottle... but gasoline is definitely cheaper here in NC... and people truly are friendly here... there is something to that Southern hospitality...
