Oy.
We drive an hour every few weeks to go to Fresh Market. I love that place! Fruits and veggies are great! The meat counter and bakery are awesome too.
Wish they were close by.
Thanks humble, I have withdrawn my apology.
Interesting - we put our beer in snow drifts all the time, back in high school, and we thought it was great, except when you forgot exactly which drift you put it in ;)
We love Valle. They have amazing produce, always fresh and at very good prices.
Visited a Central Market while In Dallas area. I really liked the store. Have not seen another one.
I have fond memories of taking back soda bottles for the deposit refund, at Grand Union, in Danbury. Our next door neighbor, “Mr. M”, worked there. Every one thought he must have been the hardest working guy in town, his car was always in the parking lot, for at least 12 hours a day. It wasn’t until I was older that my Dad confided in me that a lot of that time, Mr. M was in the bar across the street.
We also had A&P, and Stop & Shop. I’m sure you’ve heard the old joke, about what they would be named, if the two companies merged ;)
Central Market is a really nice store. Not much in the area of household cleaning products or pet food but everything else in abundance.
It may have been the beer. We didn’t drink craft beers...we drank whatever we could get.
” We also have Tops, but my wife does not care for them and there *is* a peculiar smell in their stores. Ive heard it comes from not cleaning out the drains for their freezers.”
Yup. They do smell. Like rotten meat. And their prices are high and they are filthy. And they are (surprise) union occupied.
I always attributed the stink to the fact they are union shops.
We prefer Wegmans. Clean, no smell, no union and better prices. (Wegmans seems to be a high/low price type store - just watch what you buy and you can get away fairly cheap)
The airport in Vegas had that 25 cent deposit refund, for the luggage carts. One time I flew in, knowing I would have to wait a couple hours, for my buddy to get off from work, to pick me up. I was doing $o well, returning carts, I was kind of disappointed when he finally arrived.
We drank Schaefer, for about $1.25 a six pack. One of our pals had a beard, at 14, and the drinking age in CT was 18. He would always get served, without question, even when he bought two cases, and paid for it in nickels, dimes, and quarters ;)
I want that MG!
I love Trader Joe's but they're not near me in my corner of the Sunshine State, gloom.
I like the SweetBay chain so much that I think I jinxed them. They're closing down and pulling out of all 89 stores in Florida, gloom.
I don't know a bad chain down here because evidently I was never in one. Publix is pricey, but top drawer in service to customers.
Leni
Yep!
I’d like some of those prices back again!
Good old Schafer! And Blatz too. First beers I ever hurled.
Wow, your life must be miserable, since I am among your few obsessions .
