The live production of the Rodgers and Hammerstein 1959 Broadway musical, also starred "True Bloods" star Stephen Moyer as Maria's employer and love interest, the strict Capt. Georg Von Trapp; Laura Benanti as the Captain's fiancée, Elsa Schrader; multiple Tony Award-winner and "Private Practice" star Audra McDonald as Mother Abbess and "Smash" alum Christian Borle as family friend Max Detweiler. Somehow, each supporting star outshined Underwood in a show fraught with numerous problems, which were promptly maligned on social media.
...
Kym Karath, who played Gretl Von Trapp in the film, echoed the family's sentiments.
"Love Carrie Underwood but this role is just not right for her," Karath tweeted during the show. "She is lovely her voice is beautiful but acting is wrong."
"To be clear I love Carrie Underwood. Just not as Maria. She was brave to take it on. And this doesn't lessen my respect for her talent," Karath added.

I stumbled on the movie while channel surfing. It was so amateurishly bad that at first I thought it was a comedy.
That doesn’t make me think more or less of the actors. Everyone gets bad scripts and bad production from time to time.
Timid and shy and scared are you?

A true story?
They defeated NAZIs with singing?
...THE VON TRAPPS....FOUGHT AGAINST THE NAZI’S HE WAS AN AUSTRIAN NAVAL CAPT’ WHO FLED THE COUNTRY WITH HIS FAMILY TRAVELING OVER THE ALPS TO AVOID CONSCRIPTIAN IN TO THE NAZI WAR MACHINE.....CRACK A BOOK ONCE IN AWHILE HAHAHAHA
HOW YA DOIN’ GERON?
You apparently have never seen Julie Andrews in this role . she was and remains the quintessential Maria.
Carrie Underwood is a nice enough singer but she is no Julie Andrews. Sorry I tried to watch it because I love the musical ‘book’ but could not manage more than 20 minutes
This was like a high school production and the mezzo broke the last phrase of “Climb Every Mountain” when she ran short of breath.
Oh yeah really hard . sorry this used to be done all the time. Apparently you don’t remember Mary Martin in Peter Pan
The decibels must have been deafening to the krauts
:p
And because you haven’t don’t take any one’s word who hates that musical.
Julie Andrews was wonderful in the role. The music is a great book and it was just one of those nice uplifting musicals. I have seen many versions and presentations from Broadway to the local community theater. Carrie’s version was okay but not much better than our local high school did.
LOL!
The fact that it was live was probably the most impressive part of it
She’s a C&W singer and that’s what makes the genre unique. As in: “I’ve got Friends in Low Places”, “All My Exes Live in Texas”, “I’ll Pray For You” (I pray a flower pot falls on your head), “Mama Got the Pill”, “I’m Gonna Hire a Wino (to decorate our house).....so many.
She also sings “Jesus Take the Wheel” which was a huge hit and a Christian song.
I hope you can forgive her song about a trashed pickup but that doesn’t change the fact that “Mean people need Jesus”. They really do.
“I love Carrie Underwood.”
I don’t. She came out for faggot marriage and lectured everyone that we’re idiots for not accepting it. Just search for this clown on FR and you’ll find the articles.
LOL. If your evil plan was to make me go back and examine that clip frame by frame, your plan worked.
Did you really think I don’t know who the Trapp family was?
They were indeed clever people (show business types) and my hat is off to them.
Of course the subject of movie musicals and Nazis brings Cabaret to mind: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bs5bnVoZK4Q
I didn't see it, but I'd imagine the cast included plenty of black singers, right?

I agree with the critic. Her voice was good, but her acting was weak.
"They defeated the Nazis with singing?"
Ehhh, no, not quite.(LOL)
