The Weekly Gardening Thread is a weekly gathering of folks that love soil, seeds and plants of all kinds. From complete newbies that are looking to start that first potted plant, to gardeners with some acreage, to Master Gardener level and beyond, we would love to hear from you. This thread is non-political, although you will find that most here are conservative folks. No matter what, you wont be flamed and the only dumb question is the one that isnt asked. It is impossible to hijack the Weekly Gardening Thread. There is no telling where it will go and... that is part of the fun and interest. Jump in and join us!
NOTE: This is a once a week ping list. We do post to the thread during the week. Links to related articles and discussions which might be of interest are welcomed, so feel free to post them at any time.
Good to know. I have been worrying that the ins. might say well you should have removed trees that were that close to the house or something. Thanks.
I’ll check it out. We do not have a Sam’s but we do have Walmart, and of course, Walmart.com.LOL
Yes, CoMO = Columbia. Current temp is 19°. We’re looking at 5° above zero for a low tonight. Throw another log on the fire.
It seems to me we get all our neighbors leaves plus ours.LOl
Hubby almost always just leaves them. If weather permits, he runs the lawn mower over the yard. Tells me it’s the organic way - no lawnmowers or raking in nature.LOL
So he’s against raking leaves entirely. Except in the spring, now he does rake them up in a pile surrounded by chicken wire for compost/mulch.
Yep, you still got the cold, just not the precip. Stay warm.
It got down to +27 degrees here in Benderville and it set a record for that day. I saw a photo of snow on the beach near Lincoln City Ore.
Yeah. We were initially excited that our premiums only went up ~$100. Then we read the fine print and nearly had heart attacks.
Hubby and I will have to make doctors visits alternate year things. I visit one year, hubby the next. And I’ll get to decide if my yearly visit will be my OB or my internist.
Happy times.
Thank you. Our nest (hermitage) has been our focus for years now.
Stay warm and safe. That’s kinda cold for ya’ll isn’t it?
I used to be an insurance adjuster when I was working. My advice is to read every word in your policy, don’t take what your neighbor says, or for that matter, your agent either.
Reading your policy is a learning(shocking) experience.
Wet and SLICK - watch your step. I almost fell on we oak leaves yesterday on the way to the mail box. Today, I didn’t even stick my nose outside.
This reminds me of 1983. It was below freezing for 30 days. The water in the tractor tires froze. A couple of cows fell through the ice on the stock tank. I loved the
cool weather, people here thought I was a bit “off”. I’m enjoying this cool snap too.
What kind of plant is a golden currant? Is that like the currants you eat?
And yes, y’all are cold right now. I’ll send hot chocolate and fresh apple pie thoughts your way.
Ours is a group plan from my wife’s job. It did not go up for 2014, because they offered an early renewal contract to the company for the same price.
I hate to think of 2015.
We’re seriously considering the Christian alternatives. Hopefully they’ll still be legal after all the unofficial rule rewriting going on right now.
I have been thinking about that too, after hearing how it works on Christian talk radio.
Yes, that is what they are. Humans like them, wild birds love them. I am adding several plants to supplement our failing quail population. 3 years of drought has really hurt them.
I just had the hot chocolate and marshmallows. Wife had the urge for it and made me a cup too.
But thank you for the good thoughts.
Well, I sure wasn’t about to venter out either, as it was sleeting, but hubby let the beautiful 60 degree day pass without covering his strawberries.
So I asked him, if he was going to cover them this winter or not. He said he was planning to do it. Well the sleet was just barley started, and he said he was going to the feed store for straw.
My contribution was to go out and show him the 3 bales we had stored that he had forgotten about. So he kindly offered to finish up my beds, else I would have quit and left them to nature.LOL
His head was totally covered with the sleet by the time he finished. Grand daughter got a big kick out of watching him through the window mostly. She would only go out for a few minutes at a time. No school the last 2 days for her.
I was working on bills earlier today. I have all sorts of indoor to do stuff, so I won’t be sticking my nose outside till we get considerably above freezing.
I don’t do many Christmas Cards, but I’ll need to be getting those done too.
Sounds so good. This is the weather that I try out all sorts of new soups and fix all the old favorites. Nothing like a cuppa hot soup on a cold blustery day!
