I watched half of it with the family. Then it was bed time.

Why did it have to be remade? Seriously?

I watched it. Carrie did a great job. Sure beat listening to Chrissy kissing Barry’s backside.

Amazing performance by the non-actor Carrie Underwood, in my opinion. I think if she had some time to develop her acting skills, she could be very good. As it was, she had a tendency to revert to kind of an emotionless deadpan, but the singing was beautiful. She is simply gorgeous. It’s worth repeating that this was a LIVE performance. She was not doing short takes that she could do over and over until she got it right.

“Sound of Music” stunt?! It was a musical, not a TV “gay” musical...a REAL musical. Where was the stunt?

This story lacks diversity and is not inclusive. Showing a nuclear family as a model offends more modern, enlightened sensibilities.

Pssst NBC. Gay-based sitcoms don't sell. Dysfunction doesn't sell. Crudeness and low-class don't sell.

Wholesome sells. Always did. Always will.

Carrie Underwood ain’t Julie Andrews.

Me and Mrs. R2. watched it. It was a great live performance.

It made me long for the days when quality network shows were common. I suppose there are some good dancing and singing shows currently on, but today’s pop culture turns me off, so I don’t watch them.

I was really looking forward to watching this—but I found it a big disappointment, maybe because I have watched the original one so many times.

I didn’t think the soprano could sing nearly as beautifully as Julie Andrews—and the original was actually filmed on location in the Alps.

We watched and thought it was outstanding. I didn’t notice any subtext of liberal lecturing, although the presense of a black nun (in 1940 Austria?) was rather jarring, although she gave a fine performance. It followed the stage play more closely than the movie and therefore had several songs in it that were not in the movie. Those kids were perfect in their roles. This is proof that TV really can do a good job.

The production will be broadcast live from a warehouse in Long Island ...

Performed at Grumman Studios and one building down from where I was last evening. So close to Carrie Underwood yet so far...

I have been to Salzburg, Austria and the von Trapp house there. The distance from Salzburg to Switzerland is over 200 miles by road, if you don’t cross the ‘border’ into Germany. That is the only portion of the story that has never been sensable to me. Actually the family departed by train from Salzburg to Italy.

I have to wonder if some of the panning of this, isn’t related to the PC Crowd not being able to bear the presentation without a full blown PC makeover.

Highest ratings for NBC in a long time..., pretty much refutes what folks are saying.

Somebody out there must have been enjoying it.

In Obama speak the ratings were unexpectedly high.

How could a show about a family, standing up for what’s right and sprinkled with religion have so many viewers?

I guess it was too much of a risk to make it about a gay love triangle hiding out from the evil Tea Party with their multicultural adopted children.

PS. I saw it and was very entertained and I hate musicals.

Thought she sang very well. But her acting reminded me of our 1969 high school production of this. Sorry, Carrie. Don’t lose your day job.
