The problem is that our understanding of both particle physics and the geometry of gravity is incomplete.
Having gone from basically philosophical understandings of why things fall to mathematical descriptions of how things accelerate down inclines from Galileo, to Keplers equations describing planetary motion to Newtons formulation of the Laws of Physics, to Einsteins formulations of relativity, weve been building and building a more comprehensive view of gravity. But were still not complete, said Dr. Pamela Gay. We know that there still needs to be some way to unite quantum mechanics and gravity and actually be able to write down equations that describe the centers of black holes and the earliest moments of the Universe. But were not there yet.

Oreo cookies. I eat a couple of Oreo cookies and pretty soon, gravity has increased on my scale.
You and me both.
We have gravity because the earth sucks.
dr_lew I appreciate your reply, but it just reminds me that I dropped out of HS because I COULD NOT understand trigonometry!
The world sucks ‘cuz the wind blows.
When I was a kid in Catholic school I thought ‘’sanctifying grace’’ was gravy.
My early ‘60s UBC physics prof Friedrich Kempfer, was a leading adherent of the graviton theory - gravity particles.
I remain agnostic.
nope. The devil is a woman.
Yep, that matches my experience alright.
The confirmation is just for fun. ;)
If I knew that, I’d take my Nobel Prize in physics and put it up on the shelf in my spacious corner office at Cal Tech.
