Most people working today, especially in retail, don’t want to. Their employers require it. This will continue until shoppers say nope, we’re staying home today and on Black Friday. Force the retailer to get creative like having the sucker sales on Green Saturday!

I turned on the TV for the AM news. Every single ad was about shopping. I'd rather that TV stations gave up the advertising on Thanksgiving Day, and let people who want to open stores, work, or shop make their own choices. Only do it without the TV during Macy's Parade and football games being constantly disrupted by the retail spirit.
HAPPY THANKSGIVING

Most people working today, especially in retail, dont want to. Their employers require it. This actually applies every single week....to Sundays. Without any blue laws, employers are totally empowered to demand workers work on Sunday, even though, theoretically, it is supposed to be "voluntary" and the law requires employers to respect employees' religious Sabbath. They do not.
People wonder why so few young people go to church. Entry level jobs are most often in the service industry--where almost always, people are required...to work on the Lord's day. Very sad, and, wrong.

In the early 70s, I managed in retail when malls were closed Saturdays at 6 pm, Sundays and holidays.
When that all changed, I left for greener pastures.
The "word" was that stores would close on those days once again, when the shoppers said nope, were staying home. They never did.

I own a retail store and will be working today; Christmas Day; New Year's Day and July 4th., not because I want to but because my lease requires it.
Don't really mind except for Christmas Day.
