Canadian environmental scientist David Keith wants to change the worlds climate by creating a type of sun filter in the sky to halt global warming. In an interview, he argues the technology is effective and inexpensive, but critics liken it to a nuclear bomb.
When he first devoted himself to the idea more than 20 years ago, it was considered dangerous nonsense. It enraged climate activists, and even Keith received death threats on his answering machine.
Since then, the concept of geoengineering has increasingly won over supporters, and the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) even grappled with the issue in its most recent report.

The climate changes all the time and has since the beginning of earth. Why fix something that’s not broken?
Messing with nature always opens up a Pandora’s Box of Unintended Consequences.
Funny how they want to mess with nature in earnest in response to a nonexistent messing with nature.
Bump and worth repeating
Yeah, but so can picking my nose, or not. Depends on what the sun decides.
Is that when planes that have nothing better to do make the tic-tac-toe grid across the sky leaving trails that expand eventually making the sky very hazy.
Oh never mind, that never happens around here.
No. Not just no but H*LL NO! Just look at mankind’s track record at “managing” the environment. In any attempt bigger than a vegetable garden our record is dismal at best. No way I want to see us try something on a planetary scale. We are bound to screw it up.
But, I thought the sun had nothing to do with climate change? Why make a sun filter?
Sounds like a “denier” to me.

The climate change scam is all about increasing government power and taxation. Don't worry. They don't want to actually fix anything.
Can geoengineering reverse the upcoming cooling due to the decrease in the sun’s magnetic field?
Strangely, the populations targeted for elimination are only the English-speaking caucasian sort.
Back in the early 90s, I had an idea for a book that I never wrote. It was basically going to be a parable about the government running the economy.
The premise was that the government finally attained the technology to directly influence the weather — which it initially used to stop hurricanes. The idea was that once the government had the power to “control” the weather, it would result in a series of unintended consequences, leading to climate disaster and the destruction of humanity.
I envisioned the complete politicization of the technology, resulting in weather wars and weather disasters around the globe, to say nothing of the well-meaning interference with natural climate systems due to the incomplete knowledge that the government would have, even with the best of intentions.
I never wrote that book because I didn’t have the necessary meteorological knowledge to make it plausible, and didn’t have the time to become educated on the subject without a publishing advance, which obviously wasn’t going to be forthcoming.
I guess now, though, that actual geo-engineering will write the story for me.
God help us once governments start to use this technology.
Still true.
OK!! Everybody pay attention!
Lesson for today:
1. The sun is 1,300,000 times as big as the earth.
2. The sun is a ball of fire that controls our climates.
3. The earth is a rock.
4. The earth is a speck in comparison to the size of the sun.
5. Inhabitants of the earth are less than specks.
Study Question: How do less-than-specks in congress plan to control the sun?
There are also less-than-specks in universities, as well as parliaments on both sides of the Atlantic whether free or tyrannical. Also that aberration properly called the Untied Nations . . .
How has this thread gotten as far as it has without a picture of The Simpsons’ Mr. Burns?
Here hold mah ethanol.
It’s population reduction, actually.
