Now this is my kind of American. In a packed courtroom, 52-year-old Ernie Tertelgte told the judge “I am a living man protected by natural law and I have the right to forage for food when I am hungry… You are trying to create a fictitious, fraudulent action.”

Charged with fishing without a license and resisting the arrest for fishing without a license, Mr. Tertegte says he’s being wrongly prosecuted for trying to feed himself.

Tertelgte, 52 years old, was arrested on Monday and is accused of fishing without a license and then resisting arrest.

These same nincompoops think nothing of putting wolves back in Yellowstone, because it is only natural.

But this man cannot feed himself when he is hungry?

Where is common sense?

It took the last train to Crackville.

There’s nothing conservative about poaching. If everyone killed any wildlife they wanted, anytime they wanted, there wouldn’t be any left. That’s why hunters and fishermen pushed for scientific fish and game regulation in the first place.

This is Montana, not California or New York. There’s got to me more to this.

He was arrested for not having a fishing license? It’s not like he was poaching a bald eagle. Just why would they take him into custody when a simple citation would do get him to pay a fine or go to court?

I see he was also charged with resisting arrest. Usually DFG officers will have you sign a citation promising to appear. This guy doesn’t sound like somebody who would sign one.

Stop making sense. It detracts from the tone of the thread.

When you think about it, the founders of the country would have thought it was totally crazy that you had to ask the governments permission to fish.

And as time goes on, the EPA keeps tightening and tightening wood stove restrictions, their ultimate goal to ban wood burning altogether.

I wonder what the founders would have thought if you told them the government they created wanted to ban burning wood to stay warm.

It’s almost laughable, except it’s so tragic, and so true!

What makes him not a poacher? Buy a fishing license & the creel limits are more than sufficient to provide for an individual’s subsistence, in most states.

That Hudson’s Bay blanket capote & tricorn hat he’s wearing are straight out of the eighteenth century. There’s some serious drama going on with this person.

OBTW, google “mountain man”; it doesn’t mean misfit or hermit, it means a contract trapper who sells his collected pelts to a local trader who in turn sells them to companies that produce goods from them. A true mountain man is more businessman than rebel.

LIMITED game mgt is good but there has been a LOT of mission creep, like everything else the govt does.

He’s a sovereign and she was a magistrate not a judge. He’s likely going to assert his right to a real judge and jury.

Mr. GG2 did that to a cop recently who pulled him over for no good reason. The cop was trying to figure out some reason to give him a ticket prolly for the don’t tread on me terrorist licese plate. Long story short Mr. GG2 told the cop that he could give out the ticket but he would be spending a couple of days sitting in court at the trial because Mr. GG2 would be demanding a jury trial. The cop said oh they don;t do that anymore and Mr. GG2 said oh sure do. At that point the cop decided to cut his losses and move on.

He could move to Texas and fish in the Gulf and he wouldn’t have to have a fishing license. At least you didn’t need one back when we used to fish.

Agreed!

“Everyone should be free to do as they please, as long as it does not affect any other!”

What a bunch of liberal crap! It is poaching-—plain and simple. Protect our natural resources from these people. There is always this 10% that ruin it for everyone else.
