A Boeing Dreamlifter cargo jet, with a cargo hold among the largest by volume, accidentally landed at the wrong airport in Kansas Wednesday night, and was unable to take off due to the short runway. According to KWCH News, this type of plane requires 9,200 feet to take off whereas the runway at the airport is only 6,101 feet.

MrB,
Not to beat a dead horse but there are countless jewels along that stretch... if one knows where to look.
Case in point. At the Bunker Hill exit (mile marker 193), there is, perhaps one of the finest steak restaurants in the country. You have to drive North @ 3 miles to Bunker Hill to find it. It is open wed through Sat 5 to 10 pm.
The ole boy that runs it is a mail carrier and does the restaurant as a hobby. The steaks are cut at the Wilson locker and absolutely fantastic (trust me on that, I work in the Beef Industry). His raisin bread is amazing.
Oh yea, he only accepts cash.
Cheers!

It’ll come off there, no problem. Airplanes usually need less room to take off than to land. Very similar situation happened to a USAF crew with a C17 not long ago. They landed at a general aviation field downtown St. Pete instead of McDill. Oops. Hard to believe this still happens in the age of GPS...
Why is that? There are a BUNCH of major aircraft factories in that city. It has been that way since WW2.
Pilot wouldn’t stop and ask for directions - his wife was in the cockpit....
It isn’t a dreamLINER. It is a dreamLIFTER. That is a 747 with an oversize fuselage
Our SIL is a flight safety instructor in Wichita KA. There is so much flat land and the winds make for great flying.
“Googlemaps shows how Wichata and KC are just peppered with airports.”

If there were a general aviation capital of America, I think Wichita would be it.
I had two Beech Bonanzas in my flying days.
Empty with 10 degrees of flaps? 9,200 feet? What?
Plus a dreamlifter could hold half his bombers if you took them apart. It is kinda bigger.
Last I checked, Wichita produced 1/3rd of the world’s general aviation aircraft, and nearly 1/2 of the United States’
“They could carry just the law-mandated 30 minute reserve fuel plus taxiing fuel and an extra 15 minutes worth), remove the seats and anything else extra, and take off at night. When holding at the numbers ready for take off, gun the engines to takeoff power with the brakes on and then let them go.
It could work.” I think it could work, yea, IT COULD WORK! NOW HOLD MY BEER AND WATCH THIS!!!!!!
First thing I thought!
“a jet accidentally landed “
Truly amazing! first trains, now planes. Land by themselves. What will they think of next!
Boeing could tow the jet the from Jabara over to McConnell, ..
Be aware, Boeing, “this route has tolls.” Bring some change.
Make lemonade out of lemons, stop in to harvest some shredded poultry downstream for your local food bank.

“Pilot: I think we’re gonna need a bigger runway.”
Pilot: I think I’m gonna need to find a new job...
Flying VFR at night it is possible to land at the wrong runway - I’ve done this myself. IFR? Wait, what?
