Its that time of the year again folks, when two lucky turkeys come to Washington, spend time at a swanky hotel, get some facetime with President Obama at the White House, before spending the rest of their days at a historic Virginia farm.
But those days are always short.
Gobbler and Cobblerlast years set of turkeys who attended the annual Presidential Turkey Pardonhave both died, Whispers has learned. Gobbler, Cobblers understudy, died in February.
Cobbler, 2012s official pardoned turkey, lived through the summer and was euthanized on Aug. 22.

There is so much meat bred into them that they aren't even capable of normal poultry copulation. Their eggs have to be fertilized by artificial insemination.
Chances are better than 50-50 that a table bred turkey which survives Thanksgiving and Christmas will die of naturally causes by the next year. Heart attacks are one of the most frequent causes of death, probably second only to encounters with sharp edges.
. . . which is why turkey pardons are strictly for theatrical purposes.
If you like your turkey, you can keep your turkey!
Death paneled.
Give the Turkey to one of the Homeless shelters in DC to feed to the Homeless.
Nancy Pelosi is still around.
As God is my witness, I thought turkeys could fly!
Even among chicken breeds, the lighter egg laying breeds will live a considerably longer life than the heavier meat breeds. And the meat breeds aren't even in the same ballpark as table turkeys. They are perfectly capable of copulation and only do it a little less frequently than the lighter egg-laying breeds.
I know what you did there. Which means we're both old.
Cobbler got a pain pill
I swear I thought turkeys could fly..thud, thud thud..
the first time my husband and I decided to butcher one of our turkeys for thanksgiveing we learned a few lessons on what not to do..#1 hubby wrapped the live turkey in large rubber tubing to keep it from flapping after cutting off the head. #2 after you cut off the head it still keeps on opening and closing its beak and moving on the barn floor. #3 the beheaded turkey can still flap its wings as it hung on the barn beam. #4 if you both grap the headless turkey with wings flapping, the one that holds the butcher knife has to remember to drop the knife before he makes a grab at the bird and almost slits wifes throat with the knife still in his panic hand. Wife survived, turkey didn’t. Next time we did one of our own turkeys, we brought out a paper grocery bag to throw turkeys head in....that head can really creep you out. Tie up turkey with something besides rubber tubing that flapping wings of a 35 pound bird can flap out of...
This flock of wild turkeys were across the highway last week. When I went out they flew to the trees in the distance about 100 yards. Photo taken from our deck.
They also perch in the trees at night.
Stupid custom. Especially since we have a big turkey in the white house who keeps getting pardoned for the unconstitutional things he does.
I knew it.
Why would he get upset about “Obama Richard”?
