And the Cuban Missile Crisis, on some subsequent readings of history, was not a triumph of bold statesmanship as it was hailed at the time, but a piece of foolhardy grandstanding that unnecessarily humiliated the Soviets and precipitated the arms race that defined the Cold War.
Even on civil rights the subject of one of Kennedy's greatest speeches in June 1963, when he vowed that "Every American ought to have the right to be treated as he would wish to be treated, as he would wish to have his children treated." the reality never matched the myth.
Kennedy made good on his campaign promises on equal rights but only, we now know, after being forced to intervene by growing violence in the South. Until that point, along with his brother Robert, the attorney-general, it was pragmatism not principle that had governed decision-making.

No autopsy on John Kennedy Jr., either. Quickly cremated.
The Kennedy clan has this thing about autopsies & other forms of evidence.
The same could be said of MLK. Another deity from the that time.
A liberal Democrat? yes... but if only liberal democrats were more like him:
1. Life member (honorary) of the NRA
2. War hero/pro military (not a particularly good officer but who did act heroically under fire.
3. Ran on a platform to “end the missile gap” i.e. raise military spending.
4. Was “anti-communist”.
5. Cut taxes to simulate the economy.
While he may not be as conservative as some say he “was” more conservative than what you imply...
Indeed. Compared to the filth in the White House right now, he looks purty damn good...
The print media was split, but the television media has always been on the side of the liberals.
The big emphasis during the campaign was Kennedy would be the first Catholic president, so much so that he actually gave a speech saying that it wasn't his fault that he was born and raised Catholic in order to get the southern democrat vote. Not too much different than the media's attention to the first black president in the 2008 campaign.
No, the country was not in mourning for months. School kids got an extra 3 days before Thanksgiving off and the shopping cycle went on as it does every year.
Fact, if he had lived he would passed every “great society” thing that Johnson did and you would hate his guts.
He was swine like the rest of family.
Nixon was also a POS but we’d have been better of if Daley and Johnson didn’t steal the 1960 election.
JFK was a mediocre president. Had he not been assassinated he would be seen in the same light as Grover Cleveland.
... And Obama said “if we like our insurance we can keep it.” In “Liberal-land” it’s the rhetoric not actions that count.
The more I learn about the Cuban Missile Crisis the more I am conviced that we were lucky that the amatures in the White House didn’t get us all blown to radioactive bits.
He was having an affair with an enemy spy.
“Absolutely zero reason to have an autopsy anyway. “
Besides the fact that it is required (as in the law) before you leave the state.
And it would have proved how many bullets were used by how many shooters without all the conspiracy theories years later. And, no the whole country was not in mourning (sad, but not in mourning) even though the media (cheerleaders for Camelot) tried their best to crown the Kennedy’s America’s royalty.
“Just amazed at the tearful reaction of news anchors who lost their fairy tale President whom they created.”
Chris Wallace even dragged out ole’ Judy Woodruff this morning to discuss Kennedy and I thought I was going to puke at what she said. Something about it defining America and her life. roflol...
“the reality never matched the myth”
“The same could be said of MLK. Another deity from the that time.”
Isn’t that the truth!
The Kennedy’s had the best PR machine (including MSM) that money could buy. And then anyone who didn’t “march” with MLK was a nobody according to MSM & all the Democrat politicians CLAIMED to have marched with him.
“He was the LAST combat-wounded-veteran President. (Bush01 was shot down, but unharmed.) His book, Profiles in Courage, acted as a literary mentor for many Americans.”
Ummmm... Not sure that having. PT boat cut in half while you’re in command (JFK) is significantly different than getting shot down in a TBM (GHW Bush). Kennedy’s “wound” was a back injury. Pilots bailing out of aircraft have sustained similar injuries and at much higher rates. Let’s just recognize that the senior Bush was relatively fortunate to escape unscathed.
Same with Republican politicians, like Mitt, who claimed he saw his dad march with MLK.
JFK’s ‘advisors’ were leading South Vietnamese troops in battle. Every significant ARVN military unit was nominally commanded by a South Vietnamese officer, but actually led by US officers many of whom were killed or wounded.

I didn’t realize all those people even knew where the South was located to ‘march’ with MLK to straighten out us Southern heathen. Besides the fact that many of us had best friends that were black before they “ taught us “ tolerance.
In the 50s my dad’s best friend and hunting buddy was black and spent more time at our house than he did at his. His kids were like the rest of our dozens of cousins running around playing, arguing and fighting. Didn’t matter to us.
