And the Cuban Missile Crisis, on some subsequent readings of history, was not a triumph of bold statesmanship as it was hailed at the time, but a piece of foolhardy grandstanding that unnecessarily humiliated the Soviets and precipitated the arms race that defined the Cold War.
Even on civil rights the subject of one of Kennedy's greatest speeches in June 1963, when he vowed that "Every American ought to have the right to be treated as he would wish to be treated, as he would wish to have his children treated." the reality never matched the myth.
Kennedy made good on his campaign promises on equal rights but only, we now know, after being forced to intervene by growing violence in the South. Until that point, along with his brother Robert, the attorney-general, it was pragmatism not principle that had governed decision-making.

Did you ever hear the recording of LBJ ordering pants? Hilarious.

He mentioned not wanting his change and knife falling out of his pocket.
Obama supported the Bush tax cuts and got Congress to extend them for another two years during his administration. He even hired his fellow DemonRat President Slick Willie Clinton to convince Democrats in Congress to go along with it.
Therefore, claiming that anyone who supports cutting taxes "couldn't be a RAT today" is nothing short of history revisionism. Ansel12 is right to call you on it, stylin.
Plenty of "today's Democrats" also claim to be good devout Christians (notice I said CLAIM... like their hero JFK, they certainly don't LIVE that way) and many of them are vocally "anti-communist" as well (speaking out against China's communist regime, etc.) So the idea its impossible to a modern day RAT and hold the same positions as JFK is false. In fact, even though the Democrat Party is overall more liberal than it was in 1960, a Massachuttes liberal like JFK was STILL to the left of some centrist RATs in the deep south today. Unlike Kennedy, they won't support things like socialized medicine and amnesty for illegals.
Notice Ronald Reagan himself WAS a "conservative Democrat" in 1960 and he never bought the image of JFK you're selling. Reagan was a "Democrat for Nixon" for good reason. He knew the election of the Kennedy clan would be disastrous for America.
I know some of the JFK worshipers here think they'll convince "today's Democrats" that "their party has left them" by spreading this propaganda, but it's not working and I've never met a single JFK-loving RAT who decided to become a Republican because JFK cut taxes. Nothing good can come of spreading the media's fantasy that JFK was some of heroic role model. Buying into that myth and playing up sleazy corrupt RATs like him just helps the Democrats.
I am not a JFK hater, but liberals have rewritten history about home to turn him into a god.
Basically, the warped media version of history goes like this:
Lincoln = Heroic Liberal Progressive Democrat who bravely fought for civil rights against the evil racist/sexist/homophobic conservative bigots.
Woodrow Wilson = Heroic Liberal Progressive Democrat who bravely won World War I when he was forced into it, and gave us the modern day international community abroad when the evil isolationist warmonger conservatives tried to stop it.. His views on civil rights were not important.
T. Roosevelt = Another Liberal Progressive Democrat. His views on guns and citizenship were not important.
F. Roosevelt = Heroic Liberal Progressive Democrat who bravely won World War II when he was forced into it, and gave us the modern day health care and social security benefits when the evil hateful conservatives who want people to starve to death or get sick tried to stop it. His views on civil rights were not important.
Kennedy = Heroic Liberal Progressive Democrat in the same mold as Lincoln, who bravely fought for civil rights against the evil racist/sexist/homophobic conservative bigots.
Nixon = Ultra-right wing extremist, corrupt, hateful racist, sexist, homophobic, anti-semetic, conservative bigot who loved the rich and ruined America.
Bush = Ultra-right wing extremist, corrupt, hateful racist, sexist, homophobic, anti-black, conservative bigot who loved the rich and ruined America.
Obama = Heroic Liberal Progressive Democrat in the same mold as Lincoln and Kennedy, who is bravely fighting for civil rights against the evil racist/sexist/homophobic conservative bigots.
LBJ: One of Obama’s heroes.
I’m pretty sure I read (decades ago, when I was a youngster) that Bobby had some too.
Of course, daddy helped clean up when it came out she was suspected of being a spy.
More JFK babble. From: http://mmqb.si.com/2013/11/18/peyton-manning-denver-broncos-kansas-city-chiefs-monday-morning-quarterback/6/
President Kennedy 50 years ago today was at home in Palm Beach-attended church, watched @ChicagoBears v @packers, screened film Tom Jones.
@BeschlossDC, presidential historian Michael Beschloss, on Sunday, documenting how John F. Kennedy spent the last Sunday of his life 50 years ago.”
So he was in Palm Beach (at the rape house), allegedly went to church and watched a film about a philanderer. On the bright side, he watched the CHI-GB game.
Interesting, considering how much he blasted Bush for "dumb wars". At least the 1960s left actually protested fellow socialists for engaging in them. Today's leftists are only against "waging war" when Republicans are in power.
Of course, now that Obama is President, he longer talks about avoiding wars or dismantling Bush era anti-civil liberties initiatives.
“Today’s leftists are only against “waging war” when Republicans are in power.”
Exactly. Where’s Code Pink and that Sheehan buffoon?
...crickets...
Where are the “civil righters” babbling about ‘x’?
...crickets...
Where are the daily reports of high gas prices?
...crickets...
Oh, silly me, there’s a RAT in office.
home from work...what a nice suprise...stylin19 gets hammered.
I am in no way shape or form a JFK apologist.
let me see If I have this straight.
- Truman sends the OSS into Indochina.
- The first US indadvertent US casualty is an OSS agent who recommends the US stay away from this stink hole.
- in the early 50’s the US sets up a Military Command in Indochina
- Ho-Chi-Mihn begs the US for any kind of help vs. the French and is blithely ignored.
- The US doesn’t sign-on to the Geneva Accord at least in part because of unification.
- The CIA drops millions of “Mary has moved south” leaflets in Operation Passage to Freedom, further dividing the country
- Eisenhower send advisers and equipment.
- JFK sends more advisors, who by this time are covertly involved in being shooting advisors.
- We establish a puppet regime to stop a unification vote and we eventually are complicit in Diem’s murder.
- JFK approves a National Security Memorandum recommendation to authorize the withdrawal 1000 advisers by the end of 1963.
- LBJ gets a resolution for a shooting war in that shit-hole based on a bullsh$t tip and 58k plus are on “The Wall”
and JFK got us into VietNam ?
Paleeze.......
yep, ya caught me..that’s exactly what I said...JFK was a conservative.
yep that’s exactly what I am selling - revisionism.
paleeze...
That was my point.
To anyone but a JFK apologist, 20 plus years of interest and watching over in Vietnam, and having a handful of spies and Special Forces type, was not being in a war, then came the hopped up JFK pumping in 16,000 troops and increasing involvement and taking out Diem and then he became the boob who “got us into Vietnam”.
If your man had not stolen the 1960 election, then no Vietnam war.
I wonder what Obama has in his pockets. Besides a pack of menthols.
‘63, the Bears last pre-Super Bowl Championship.
I’ve never of heard of “Tom Jones” (the ‘63 movie).
Flavored anal lube.
63: A fine year for Da Bears!
Tom Jones is a great flick; check it out if you can. It’s usually on cable a couple times a year.
Fighting in VN wasn’t wrong. Fighting to LOSE was wrong. Kennedy wanted to win - and unhook from the Fed (EO 011110). Johnson was much more willing to follow orders.
