My great grandfather lost several cows to oleander in California in the late 1800s. We sould never plant them on our property. In fact a lot of Californians call oleanders “freeway flowers” because the state landscapes the freeways with oleander bushes because they don’t require much water.

I’ve gotten rid of most of the ones around my house. They’re difficult to kill once established. They were very popular when my house was built back in the ‘80’s so I had a bunch in the backyard. I’ve always hated them because they are so prolific, even if you don’t bother watering them.

Every part of the oleander is poisonous, and will kill you if ingested. If you’ve ever smelled a blossom, you will KNOW the plant is poison.

Thanks. I have a number of these plants outside. George T stays inside.

I will just have to make sure to keep any bulbs away from him

I have called the poison control line several times for my cats drinking and eating the wrong stuff. The last time was 2 years ago when one of our cats drank from a pail of miracle grow fertilizer that my wife left on the porch for a minute while she got something inside the house.

Fangs! I knew about half the plants were poisonous to cats, but the other half were eye-openers.

You done good!

Cats seem to think that the universe will bend to their will. Quite often, they’re right.

None of my pets have ever shown the slightest interest in my cyclamen. They do love to dig in the soil of my hibiscus, though.

My property is full of daffodils. Again, none of the cats or dogs have ever so much as sniffed one.
