Netflix has Sahara on DVD. Last week I previewed this desert saga in which Bogey and his little international band take on a battalion of the Afrika Korps and attempt to hold them off until the cavalry arrives. In my opinion the good guys would have lasted about 30 seconds in their unfortified position against such a force, but that would have wrecked the story and our morale would have suffered. Worth seeing if you havent already.

Good little war flick. I read somewhere that Sahara was Bogart’s favorite, in terms of roles got to play. It was also quite interesting to see Dan Duryea in a good guy role for a change.
Probably my favorite character in the film, though, was Louis Mercier’s “Frenchy.” His dialogue with Bogart about how to deal with a Nazi is just priceless.

Just amazing that Bogie made "Casablanca" and "Sahara" in less than a year...pretty good career right there..
Interesting factoid about "Casablanca".it was being filmed towards the end of 1942..scheduled for release mid 43...when the news leaked about the upcoming Casablanca conference in Jan 1943, the studio rushed the production. Some say that you can see where they took short-cuts. It was released about 2 weeks after the conference. Talk about great timing..

It was released about 2 weeks after the conference. "Casablanca opened in New York on November 26, 1942. That was almost 3 weeks after the invasion of North Africa. I didn't know that word of Operation Torch was leaked. Maybe the studio decided on the rush job after the fact.

AN ambitious design for what pre-war would have been called an "infantry tank" --- but the Germans made short work of them due to their excessively high profile...

I love to see these old newspaper adds to see what movies were on, and how many were never see again.
Did you know that SAHARA was remade into a Western in which Comanche Indians were the bad guys? I saw it on TV a few years ago.
LAST OF THE COMANCHES.

Every time I point out something unrealistic (usually military) in a movie, my family all say, oh Dad, it’s just a movie!
